Applying for F500 corporate finance (FPA most likely) as an analyst or senior

Please read and give gut reactions. After a few days and responses, I'll post a backstory and see if that changes your recommendations. THANKS.

1. Which parts impressed you?
2. Which parts should be cut out (either you weren't impressed or you didn't immediately understand)?

You work for a hospital that averages 25K in revenue per employee?
Is it bankrupt or in a 3rd world country?

LOL. A hospital is part of the HEALTHCARE industry. I'm in the hospitality industry, like hotels, timeshares, travel and guest services.

pubfinanalyst:

also why did you go to a top 20 university and then go to an unimpressive school?

A number of reasons:

  1. I went to a big-name school for undergrad, but didn't do well. That probably shuts me out of the jobs and MBA programs that are exalted on this forum.

  2. My first career was in PWM, and I needed a super specialized program for financial planning, taxation, and estate planning. There's not a lot of schools in the country that offer that.

  3. Because I was tied to a geographic region, the program needed an online option.

In fact, there were really only TWO schools in the nation I was considering. FWIW, the school has amazing professors and some of the students are beasts. The problem is that my grad school is like University of Phoenix - they let in anyone under the sun and then weed them out with really difficult coursework. I wouldn't be surprised if my grad program has a 100% acceptance rate and another stat showing that 50% of the people quit after 1 or 2 classes.

If I went into a part-time MBA at a top 20 school, I'd expect to tread water. If I went to a part-time MBA at a top 50 school, I'd expect to slaughter the classmates.
