Are the tasks given to Summer Analysts difficult?
Hi Guys,
I have huge respect regarding my upcoming summer internship with GS and wanted to ask how hard the tasks are which are given to the Summer Analysts? Do the task involve a lot of modeling knowledge?

Nothing about IB is hard at the analyst level, let alone summer analyst. Show up on time, listen and take notes, be available at all times, and don't fuck up what you're given.
Bruv you're gonna be taking notes, formatting pages, updating trackers and aligning logos. Your ATD is going to be tested, that's about it. You won't be touching the operating model, maybe a top 10 customers analysis or something like that
What's "ATD?"
Attention to detail I'm guessing...
You might get to make a working group list.
You will not be given anything they think you won't be able to handle. They're not going to f*** up a pitch or deal because of an intern

You should petition GS for the rep of doing a PIB by hand - it's a core SA experience that you don't want to miss.

I don't know why everyone is so sure you won't have to do a model. I've seen summer analysts work on models often enough. Someone else owns it but nothing wrong with asking a summer to take a first shot, especially if it's a simpler model for a pitch.
That's not to say it won't be mostly BS grunt work, arranging logos etc. But I wouldn't go into a summer having no idea how to do a model.
Yeah, at MMs and EBs with leaner deal teams I feel like it is higher likelihood than at BBs. As an SA at a MM, I did have the opportunity to work on a pitch model but my group also ran super super lean (8 people total).
8 people on a pitch? I came from an EB but this is probably double what our deal teams were, whereas pitches were three / four tops.
My SA experience involved us attempting the same model the analyst was doing, but it was just for an educational experience, not part of the live deal.
