Asset management career progression - do you start as an research analyst?
Hi All,
After reading through a few of the threads in the AM forum, I do agree with the general consensus here that the Asset Management career progression seems far less structured than in IB or consulting.
I am very interested into switching into a buy-side asset management role and I am wondering what the equivalent of an IB analyst would be in buy-side asset management. I have read in a few threads that the equivalent position would be called "associate" but when I look through most of the career websites, it seems like junior positions often are related to equity research (if you wanna do equities). Could someone please shed some light on this? If I would want to apply to a position that is equivalent to an analyst in IB would that be to apply for an equity research role?
Thank you,

What’s your background? And are you only going for equities, or also fixed income? In general, there are very few spots for entry level and a lot of them are mba or 2+ years in a similar role.
