Bain vs BCG
Junior at a semi-target. MBB was always the goal, and I never thought about the possibility of receiving more than one offer. I received offers from Bain (ACI) and BCG (SA) for the same office and would like to see thoughts and perspectives from people at both firms. Also happy to share my experience interviewing and answer questions.
How was your BCG interview? Did you have to do the online case?
1st round was one live and one online case, 2nd round I had two live interviews with principals/partners. All were 45 minutes long.
I have final round at BCG coming up this week and my first round was that exact format. Can I PM you?
Congrats! Do you mind sharing a bit more about the BCG final round? Was the case a standard case (market entry, profitability) or another case type? How much did the Partner intervene? Was it more interviewer-led or candidate-led?
Congratulations! As with any other MBB cross offers, go with the one you mesh the best with- especially if not considering PE later on. Location doesn't seem to be a big factor here, since both offers are in the same city, but I would still ask around to see what are the types of projects and if that aligns with your career goal.
Congrats! What office are you in? I'd consider it through a few different lenses:
Culture - I've generally heard people much prefer working at Bain, but did you feel you connected particularly well with any of your interviewers/people you chatted with at each firm?
Office - Bain operates under a home staffing model and has a pretty regional approach, whereas BCG isn't quite as local, so if you're in Houston or SF and are less enthusiastic about O&G or Tech then BCG might make more sense.
Future Opportunities - From what I've read, Bain places more people into PE - if that's something you're interested in pursuing in the future. Of course, I'm sure there are plenty of BCG consultants who do really well too.
The only thing I’d add to this is that BCG has the best benefits and policies of any of the firms - $5 copay on healthcare, 90 min flight first class, etc
I've heard that this year, they've gotten rid of the flight thing along with a lot of the other benefits that distinguished them previously. Don't think business is doing too great.
Healthcare is the same at Bain and McKinsey I believe.
I had the exact same situation last year. Location was the same for me, so I chose based on the culture that I felt I fit more with and the possibility of PE in the future.
If you want to make partner, BCG because of relatively more spots for promotion per undergrad hire.
Can I PM you? Facing the same decision right now
Sure
Was in this same exact spot 2 years ago. Dm me, happy to chat through the decision process as impartially as I can
Hey, I'm also at a semi-target/non-target for management consulting (Cornell leans more towards IB & Big 4/Wyman), do you have any advice for interview preparation and the kinds of things you should get on your resume for sophomore and freshman year?
Join your school's consulting club, get a high GPA, and do interesting things that you enjoy
Hey I’m a freshman and I also go to a semi target. What do you think you did prior to junior year that helped with landing interviews? Any overall advice?
