Bain Cap Ventures - As great as it seems?
What's the general sentiment towards BCV among PE, growth equity, and VC guys? Obviously Bain Cap is a highly regarded shop, but I have a feeling that BCV could not be as well-regarded and as great... How have their returns been? Do their associates, VPs, and principals get paid the same as those in Bain Cap?
I believe they have raised about $2.3B since they started 30 years ago with their latest fund being $600M.
Not sure where you're getting your info from. Bain Cap Ventures is very well regarded among VCs and tech companies. I work at another tier 1 VC and we consider Bain Cap among our peer group.
The pay is a bit different between BCV and Bain Cap NAPE. A bit less for associates at BCV, but they also work less than PE associates.
BCV is very well regarded though, definitely a tier 1 VC
My face when I saw that they invested in Color Labs:

How is Bain Capital Ventures regarded in the investing space? And how much overlap is there with Bain Capital PE, given that BCV also does some expansion/growth buyout deals?
Also, any tips on how to break in with BCV?
I hear they are more growthy than early-stage vc.
i think that sounds about right. anybody else?
Not really, I work at MBB and know quite a few folks who work at BCV. Like any VC they listen to a lot of pitches and have seed invested in several startups. In the current market most VC investments across all firms have been "growthy"; but thats just fallout from the current environment.
Cheers!
Sorry, I didn't quite catch your drift. "Not really" was a response to what exactly? Thanks.
