Bain vs. BCG in Chicago

Received offers from both firms for the post-MBA consultant position. Differences in salary and bonus are very minor ~165k base, Bain 30k signing bonus, BCG 25k signing bonus. Looking to eventually pivot to tech or finance (PE/VC) with current background in medicine. People I've interacted with were great at both Bain and BCG. Any information on office culture, size, industry-focus, etc. for the films' Chicago offices would be appreciated!

Chicago is a top office for all of the MBB firms, so congratulations! Respected as a wonderful office prestige-wise with a great culture. Both Bain and BCG are very strong in the city, though less so than McKinsey (which was founded there). In terms of one being better than the other, I'd focus more of differences between the firms, cultures, promotions, etc than too much on the office since both will be similarly focused.

Have multiple friends that have worked at Bain there. Super sharp but down to earth people, would assume office culture is superb.

with your background in med, are you interested in PE/VC firms in the life sciences space? if so, BCG could be the move, since bain is notably weaker in this practice than both mck and bcg. otherwise, if it's just a general interest in pe/vc, then i would go with bain and index into the due diligence ringfence they have in the PEG. if your number one goal is tech, then either is probably fine (though chicago isnt necessarily the best city for that, especially at bain since youre restricted to projects in your local office)

other considerations would be people and culture but that seems to be a wash - if it really is equal for you, then go with the industry considerations above
