Banks that sponsor TN visa (Canadians only)
Since the TN situation is getting more and more complicated, can we compile a list of banks that sponsor Canadians? I think it would helpful for all us based out of Canada to have an idea of where to concentrate our efforts in the US.
From what I’ve gathered:
Sponsors:
GS (heard from multiple sources that they’re great at managing the situation for the most part, however know 3 individuals who’s visa didn’t pass)
Evercore (“who tf outside of finance knows about evercore” - current analyst there)
Moelis
Lazard
Barclays
Does Rothschild sponsor international students (non-Canadian)?
I have never seen them recruit in Canada for their U.S. offices. Haven't seen a lateral as well.
Got it. So they probably don't sponsor internationals I assume?
Houlihan Lokey Credit Suisse (particularly SF) Silver Lake (PE) Qatalyst (need confirmation) Centerview JPM (need confirmation) Jefferies (saw a recent lateral) Liontree Dyal (only hire experienced candidates) RBC Ares (PE-need confirmation)
Can confirm for liontree and RBC.
RBC in the US is no longer sponsoring canadians
Qatalyst yes but I only know of exprieinced hires.
Nope Qatalyst recruits out of Ivey at an undergrad level and sponsors
JPM doesn't take Canadians anymore, don't think they have for 2 or 3 years now
JPM took an ivey student from summer to full time
Greentech really likes Queens kids
Evercore really likes Western kids
LionTree really likes McGill kids
Can confirm that Evercore NYC is huge for Ivey and Evercore Houston big on McGill (O&G).
can you elaborate more on this? I remember someone in another thread said that EVR only hired one summer from Ivey for the 2021 cycle...
Goldman Sachs stopped sponsoring visas for Canadians this past year. Many 2018 Ivey grads were relocated to other offices outside of the United States after interning there the previous summer. Not sure if the situation has improved since then.
Wasn’t aware of this. Talked to some folks that stated that GS was dealing with the situation pretty well.
Can confirm Moelis sponsors Canadians as well.
I think they’re sponsoring but from what I’ve seen they’re taking more and more smaller classes.
LA or NYC? I rarely see anyone from Canada that go to their NY office and the LA class is never big to begin with...
San Fran has taken a lot of Canadians historically and I know NYC has hired for this cycle. From what I've heard LA used to hire Ivey, but recently they've only been hiring from US targets.
Tobin and Co will not
Depends on the school - processes for XYZ might not apply for ABC. E.g. Moelis NY takes several from Queen's but the same cannot be said for CS SF (Ivey). So its pretty variable depending on the school. NY firms tend to take mainly Queen's kids from what I've seen but Ivey has a stranglehold on West Coast (SF/LA). That's being said, recruiting at Ivey is on a serious decline. Previous years, even 2-3 years ago, close to 30 kids would get banking jobs in the US. Now, only one from Evercore (NY), 2-3 HL (LA -RX/M&A), 3 CS (SF), 0 from Qatalyst (apparently they'll stop recruiting there going forward due to visas), 2 from Silver Lake (Menlo) are going to the US as far as I know. (Knowledge limited to word of mouth on campus, Ivey).
Is this only for IBD since the 'economist' category seems to have changed?
any info if bofa sponsors Canadians
...

Barclays not sponsoring
how about Citi?
