BB strategist -> Global macro fund: likelihood?

So I'm currently working in a strategist position at a BB and i'm wondering what HF global macro exit opps look like.
I ask because from what i've usually read most global macro PMs come from trading backgrounds, so i'm wondering if research is at all a valued skillset for a PM role.
Would be really interested to hear what people in the industry have to say.

Thanks!

My gf works in the space and it happens quite often. As other have mentioned, you need to built a track record of developing smart trade ideas / advice. Historically, a lot of people joined Macro funds from bank's prop desks, but these have either been significantly reduced or eliminated altogether so I am not sure it's really a common path anymore. Note that a lot of macro fund like to hire Econ PhDs with Fed / IMF experience. Also note that performance as been pretty lacklustre across the board over the last couple years so a lot of Macro funds have shed assets and people.
