Berkeley Economics vs. Haas Finance Opportunities

What are the employment opportunities in IB and management consulting like for Berkeley economics major? How competitive are they, and how inferior are they seen compared to Haas business majors?

I’ve seen a few forums where people say that econ majors get plenty of opportunities, but I was recently looking at the Berkeley econ major employment report and there were very few people who actually got investment banking jobs. Can anyone shed some light on this? Also, what kind of jobs DO Berkeley econ majors typically get?

I’m thinking about going to UC Berkeley, but i’ve only been admitted to the College of Letters and Sciences, where I can declare an economics major. I can apply to Haas in sophomore year, but only a third of students can get in so there’s no guarantee. I’m trying to understand if an econ major is going to get me anywhere. Will the Haas vs. Econ disparity have large bearing on my career opportunities?

Econ Berkeley grad at EB/BB. I would say the opportunities aren’t much different. The key differences are that there are 1) a lot more Econ grads so there is a smaller % of people getting the best jobs and 2) most people in Econ applied to haas. So Haas has better students more due to simply a self-fulfilling prophecy of having better students / more hardos get in. BUT you have basically the same OCR and club access and a few of my friends as well were able to get IB jobs without too much difficulty
