Best Way to Make Money in College
I recently landed an IB gig for SA 2022. With that locked up and my basically a FT job secured (assuming I don't suck next summer) I've lost motivation to work someplace just to pad my resume. I plan on only picking up a job/internship if I think I will actually learn or it pays well.
With that said what are some places I can look at to make some $ before I graduate? Most of the local PE/Growth/VC shops pay like $15/hr during the school year. Unless I thought I would get more out of that experience that than money there's no way in hell I'm working for that little. There is always a chance something comes across my desk that finance-related and I pick up for a semester or so.
Maybe I go do some manual labor? Haven't done any since HS and have gotten soft as hell. Could be good for me, might earn some decent money?
I'd love to hear the forum's ideas or experiences in this situation. Thanks
I wrote essays last semester, a lot of new immigrant kids who can’t speak or write English very well are willing to pay. If not that, you could just get one those WFH jobs (customer service, data entry, etc) if you want something more finance related ignore these suggestions. But sitting there for a few hours on YouTube or whatever while making 15/hr isn’t a bad deal. It can also be really flexible and you basically work whenever you want as long as you put on the minimum required hours per week (mine was like 25 hrs).
I worked as a barista/food store during college. Paid was awful but made loads of friends, had constant free food, and learning the whole good customer service thing (ie. being polite to assholes) turned out really useful in IB.
If you can work at a nice golf course in the bag room or caddying, you can make bank. I worked in the bag room at an okay country club and it worked out to ~23/hour after tips. Some of my friends who caddy at nice clubs will come home with 300-600 a day.
I continued to work a retail job that I had worked since high school. It paid well for retail ($15/hr); I was working with my friends, and it gave me something to do the summer before my internship. I didn’t work very hard and it taught me to work with people who are significantly less driven and on a very different life path than me.
If you can code just make a really stingy game and you can get some nice passive income
Working at a bar makes you a ton of money. I know college students who make $50-$60 on the busiest days at one of the top bars in my city. Or do SAT/ACT tutoring and charge $30-$40 bucks. Anyways, $15/hr isn’t bad and I don’t think you need to harp over a couple of dollars an hour since your going to work in IB. Idk I’d rather get paid $15/hr in the career I chose than a little more in some random retail or menial job.
