BofA vs Lazard Real Estate Investment Banking
Anyone have any insight into these groups in terms of hours, compensation, exists, career progression, etc?
Lazard seems to be much more M&A focused, while BofA seems more financing focused.
Thanks!

BofA/BAML REGL will give you better exits to top REPE funds. The real estate industry is very capital intensive; in order to land the top mandates, banks are expected to provide acquisition financing. That's why you rarely see Lazard on those large cap real estate M&A
When it comes to RE the banks with balance sheets reign supreme as the REIT world is way more capital markets heavy than M&A heavy. That said if you would prefer to be doing more M&A, I would lean toward Laz.
I really don't think BofA will have better exits than Laz either. Their both top caliber banks and REPE recruiting isn't quite as nit-picky as LBO PE recruiting.
You’ll do great out of either. You can do REIB at an MM bank or mid sized balance sheet bank like BMO and get great REPE exits. So not worth splitting hairs over Lazard and BAML
