Breaking into HF investment side from operations
Hi,
few months back i joined operations team in a US hedge fund...and armed with just 5 months experience in a risk consulting firm and a graduate degree in finance it seemed like a step up to me...but truth be told right now i'm doing just lots of stuff which can be safely bundled into 2 categories... reconciliation and formatting and saving trade files...
my question is:
1)if i am not able to break into a top B-school next year will this hamper my chances of employment as an IB/equity research analyst positions
2) also, i have heard great tales of how people hv gone from operations to head the funds but on a ground level, what specific skill set would i need to invest in to break into investing side...
i love breaking down and understanding different business models and am more of value based analyst with my main skill in ability to ask the right questions n applying macro trends in industry & economy rather than a quant approach...
