Bulge Bracket
Is it that difficult to get into a bulge bracket? I would like to work for Goldmans, ML or MS. Also interested in a few non BB Credit Suisse and Barcap. If I work in a medium rep european bank can i make the move after a analyst programme or do i need to get an MBA.
I work for a bank with little exposure in the UK but we are bigger in other european countries and my pay is really low. I have to find a way to make a move even if it is a sideways move as long as there is more pay and some progression. The only good thing about my bank are the women and their tanned legs apart from that I cant se any upside.
is this a not so subtle swipe at CS?
No way, I'm in no position to say anything about CS. I would be happy to work there. Its just that if I was given a choice it would be one of the others first.
If you mean that I didnt include CS in BB, its because I dont think it is.
From what i understand BB is ML, GS, MS, JP and maybe Citigroup.
BB is considered the top 10 or so banks with ranked tiers.
Tier 1: GS/MS Tier 2: Lehman/Citi/JPM/ML/CS Tier 3: DB/BofA/Bear/others
That ranking could definitely be improved on, but is a VERY rough analysis based on overall deal flow (e.g. DB's LevFin and S&T are top ranked etc)
an overall prestige ranking of the BB might look like
GS MS ML JPM Lehman Citi UBS CS DB
obviously there are exceptions - CS sponsors etc.

GS MS Citi LEH / CSFB / UBS / ML toss up for next 4 spots JPM BoA DB
No giant ATM should be ranked third

i dont see how u can say CS and UBS are in the same league as LEH
Please, LEH's big time trump card for banking just peaced out. CS still has some hitters same with UBS. It's pretty hard to differentiate after GS/MS as you can see.

Agree with EXGSBanker and GQBanker. Look at the league tables. You say that Citi is a giant ATM, I don't see how that changes the fact that they have recently been doing great and are toping the league tables.
Citi does more lead deals (M&A) than anyone but GS/MS.
Please stop being swayed by financing league tables. Those are worthless.
Open your eyes and take a look at who is working on industry changing M&A deals. That is how you should think about IBD prestige.
