Buy-Side Back office to Investment Research Resume Review

Hi WSO!

Posted about a year ago and received some great feedback. I was looking to gauge where I stand in terms of recruiting in an investment research position, ie equity research, credit research (sell side or buy side).

I’ve been networking like crazy and have met some people in the ss equity research field but unfortunately no luck securing a job.

On top of that I’ve been following some companies, creating fully integrated models and research reports and have received very positive feedback from people in the research.

I’ve been employed at a fixed income shop that is well known (Think PIMCO, BlackRock), for about 1.5 years. My job is completely back-office and support account managers and sales people. I consistently can/do interact with FO people and the credit research people. I’ve made it be known to the person in charge of the research department that I want to break-in and have networked with the senior analysts.

I also signed up for level 1 of the CFA.

Is there anything else I should be doing? Should I gun for any FO position given the difficulty of breaking into ER? I don't want to limit my opportunities in the future given the mechanical nature of my position. I appreciate all advice! Thanks
