Can I still find a summer analyst position at a boutique bank in San Francisco?
Hey, so I'm a junior at UC Berkeley as an Economics Major and I do not have anything lined up for the summer. I really want an internship at a regional boutique in San Francisco. But from the gist of things, after reading on here, it seems like the majority of boutiques already finished recruiting. I have a 2.99 GPA and nothing particular special about my extra curriculars or work experience, but I am willing to call every single boutique in the SF Bay Area for an internship. I just don't know if it will be for nothing.
sure you can, but probably in their back office.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of kids in your position with better GPAs, so realistically you're not going to get anything through resume drops. Cold calling is your best (probably only) option, but you're in luck! Most kids aren't willing to put in the leg-work to literally call every single boutique.
Who knows how it'll turn out, but you're not going to get anything without trying. Good luck.
Also, just curious: how did you end up with a sub-3.0? If you've got an interesting story (injury, death in the family, etc) you might be able to list something better on your resume and explain it if/when they ask.
Man, my whole college career has been plagued with diseases and injuries.
I messed up my arm a few weeks before coming to UC Berkeley. I had to walk around in a sling. Then during the first semester of my sophomore year, I messed up my arm again and was in a sling during midterms. I really lost a lot of motivation at this point and was just trying to get by just enough to graduate.
Last year, I started exhibiting symptoms for a nasty disease. February-September for me was hell. I don't want to go into too much detail because it's pretty disgusting.
Interning in Boutique Banks in SF for Fall 2014 (Originally Posted: 05/20/2014)
~Hey Everybody,
I am an international student from Canada at UCBerkeley trying to intern in the Fall 2014 while studying. I would appreciate any help towards this search and would like to know if it's too late for me to reach out to people. I have an ok GPA and have interning experience in research but not much in business cause I am only a sophomore. I have some questions:
Also, any other suggestions, recommendations, are welcome!
Thanks so much!
I don't think you can work during the semester as an int'l student.
