career advice for a college junior

Hey guys

Current college junior. I got interested in consulting quite late and only had time to apply to a few summer internships. I got an offer from Deloitte Human Capital in the actuarial rewards and analytics department. However, I heard that you guys said that working in human capital is like handcuffs as in once you go into human capital you can't go out. Does this apply for internships? Will taking this summer internship hurt my chances of applying to MBB positions after graduation and other S&O firms.

I'd wait to hear back from my other internships but Deloitte wants an answer in the next week.

Yes, you'll find it hard to do non-HC cases if you end up going there full time - if that's what you mean by handcuffs. You'll want to explore going to a more generalist group such as Strategy.

For full time recruiting, it's unlikely you'll get pigeon holed into HC roles only since you've only had a summer experience. You should be fine for applying to other comapanies like MBB, etc.

What are your alternatives? If you can't expedite any other times lines to get a decision before the Deloitte offer expires, you're really going to have to take it. It might not be the best if you want to do MC, but it'll be significantly better than nothing/non-legit offer for the summer if you turn it down and don't land something.
