Path to an Asset Manager

Hey all,

If my goal is to land a role at an Asset Management firm as an analyst hoping to eventually become a PM,
1) Would it be wise to start out in the AM arm of a BB or rather in Equity Reaserch in a BB straight out of undergrad? Would I be better off just trying to place into an AM firm right out of college?

2) Which is more difficult to get into out of Undergrad or are they relatively the same?

3) Which might give a better opportunity for higher compensation starting out?

About me: black male at a (growing in popularity) semi-non target school in NYC. (I put this only because I know this can play a role in recruiting, location, etc.)

Thanks for the help
