Centerview Compensation

In process with them, a few rounds in with the team and want to understand what the compensation progression is at the firm.

I've heard that the base salaries are generally lower at Centerview relative to the peers but they "make up for it" through bonus. I'm not sure what that progression looks like for Associate and VP / Principal years, so would appreciate the WSO community's insights into the base and bonus level.

I'm at a known "high" payer on the street, but obviously not at Centerview level (based on what I've heard albeit w/o any data). So I'm trying to understand if the move makes sense from a compensation perspective, putting aside the platform / MD fit for a moment (which is much more important in grand scheme of things, but I say this since I wont be "losing" much from that POV given where I am with my current group).

Thanks in advance!

You're right on the lower base / higher bonus dynamic, but they more than "make up for it." Don't have concrete data points on ASO+ but my friend cleared $240k as a second year analyst. Have heard Associates clear $400k, and this figure is supported if you extrapolate from analyst pay data points.

Either way, they take care of their people better than any other firm on the street and if you are in banking for the mid-long term, I'd say you'd be hard pressed to find a better place to be at.

Sorry, just given the lean teams / Associate classes overall for CVP, I wouldn't want to speak about the office at this time.

The place where I am, NYC, has A1 full year at ~$310K, A2 ~$360K, A3 ~$420K, but unsure about VP comp (Associate comp was all-in for top buckets, but my understanding is that spread is only ~$20K or so).

So if I'm comparing $400K at CVP vs A1 at my place, that's a meaningful variance, but if I'm comparing $400K to A2 or A3 at my bank, it's not nearly that exciting to leave a place where I'm in a good spot.

There are threads out there but I haven't seen any concrete data points yet so hoping to get some here.

Also curious about the progression at A3 and VP levels at CVP

Makes sense. If analysts sign A2A, third year analyst comp comes in around $350k. Pretty sure A3 is ~$500k, so definitely a meaningful variance to your spreads.

Are you viewing the move purely based on the comp difference, or are you also attracted to the generalist platform? I personally think that's a big selling point. [edit: just read your original post, got it]

I did use the "search function"  - just because there are multiple threads, doesn't mean they address what I might be interested in learning about. Yes, there are threads, and yes someone has replied on one of those threads about what analysts make there, but that's now what I'm trying to understand.

Also, on your note, what is pre-GFC?
