Chicago: Best summer city in the U.S.

For those of you who are tired of the miserable NYC summers, I highly recommend that you check out Chicago. Great weather, not too humid, SICK scene at north avenue and oak street beaches, rush street, cubs games, fun bars in wrigleyville and lincoln park, tons of hot chicks, street festivals. there's nothing in America like it.

and as usual quantum comes through as expected with his weekly post giving chicago a nice sloppy bj

lol @ Cubs fans...I've heard from several people that have returned from the Midwest that Chicago fans in all sports are among the most whiny short-sighted fans in professional sports...the kind of fans that scream "SHOOT" everytime a defenseman gets the puck at the blue line...and if there's a turnover on the play there will be endless "why didn't he shoot, he sucks" comments. A bit lacking in depth if you ask me.

Actually I had the same bias against Philly as you did before I ever experienced the scene for myself. I'm a Braves fan by the way...so it way a rivalry game. I expected the fans to be BRUTAL.

I was wrong. I've gotten much more harrassment in NY, and other cities, from ignorant fans shouting and throwing things than in Philly. I was shocked by what I witnessed, here were some observations:

A) The fans were really down to Earth, made a few comments and jokes here and there towards me but it was all friendly stuff, never got taken out of context. They're by far the most hilariously self-deprecating fan base. I find the NY fans to be much more immature and sometimes it elevates to "fist fight" levels.

B) The fans were brutal on the players on the field (moreso on their own players), but they were, by far, the most creative I've ever witnessed. I had a few legitimate laugh until my side hurt moments. Some of the stunts they pulled were pure genius, clever people.

C) Pretty intelligent fans, certainly had enough foresight to see how actions might impact the game down the line (more than I can say for 95% of fan bases)

Anyway, I highly recommend the experience, great stadium too. Don't knock Philly fans until you try em'.

But yeah, Chicago fans are whack, lol.

you "highly recommend that you We check out Chicago".... so what, if someone is having a bad weekend in NYC, you suggest that he/she quit their job and move to Chicago...what the hell is the point of this post?

L.A. and San Diego still kick chicago's ass when it comes to summertime cities. i'll take a real beach over lake michigan any day of the week.
i honestly don't even understand how chicago is even being talked about as a top summer city. in newport beach i can surf every single day after work and although the women are made up of 42% silicone by body mass, they look a hell of a lot better than the talent in chicago

chicago summer is so hyped that it's ridiculous. basically a bunch of midwestern kids from small shithole towns move there after college and go nuts because they've never experienced anything else before. it's like the acne faced 19-year old kid who finally loses his virginity to a mediocre chick but thinks it's the greatest human experience ever.

there are definitely lot of hotties here, but comparing it to so cal is just absurd.

I'm from Chicago, and have done a good bit of traveling.

The burbs are the best place to raise a family in the country, Its a step down in arrogance from the East Coast Greenwich/Long Island areas with great public and private schools (Neuqua Valley, New Trier, Lake Forest...etc)

I wouldn't say its the best place to spend a summer, or live if you're in your 20's and single. But I will say that we have some of the best sports in the country/world though we aren't always winning, there's always a team competing for the playoffs during some season.

I'd have to say Cleveland has the worst fans in the world, and rightfully so, but Bulls fans and die-hard Hawks/Bears fans are some of the best in the country.

Yes, with the Hawks recent explosion there are some people who love the Hawks but don't know anything about Hockey, don't be an elitist and think everyone has to be a pro to enjoy a sport, its the same in any stadium, any sport across the country.

theres an essence about chicago that you dont appreciate until you live here.... i love summertime chi

quantum, why do you feel the need to rehash the Chicago v. * theme oh so many times? It's gotten to the point that when I see a Chicago thread on the sidebar, there's a 9 in 10 chance that you started it. Get off it already.

Threads like this are part of the reason why I love this site.

To reiterate: 42% silicone by body mass is absolutely a good thing. And yes, too many NYC clubs are made up of fat jewish girls in leggings. Both comments hilarious and yet also so factually correct.

ok. i'm not american and i have no "regional bias". i have lived in several cities in europe/asia/the US, and traveled a fair deal. i have lived in chicago and i think it's a great city. walking from sears tower all the way east to the lake and then north to lake shore east, after work, with the moon up over the water, mag mile to your left and aon and that cluster of streeterville up north...going for a meal somewhere around the gold coast, catching bonobo playing somewhere in the near north side, and going to some bar thereabouts. it's not so bad. i think chicago is a very livable city.

i must say, though, that rush and d is just terrible. whoever quoted it as an example of great nightlife...i dunno man....

i would never contest that chi is better than nyc - because it just isn't, even if i like it more. and i'm not saying that i do.

Chicago's waterfront, stretching all the way from south loop to the northshore, is unparalleled. NYC has nothing like it.

Chicago is an impeccably clean city, you can walk around and not see a single rat or garbage lying around. NYC is infested with filth and grime.

Chicago's architecture is modern and sophisticated while NYC's is old and decrepit. Much of manhattan looks like a ghetto.

No contest; Chicago wins out easily.

wow i was adding "i think chicago is a very livable city" to my post within two minutes of originally posting it, and you already had a reply.

in my post, i was saying that i like chicago. but i would not make it my life's mission to convince everyone it is better than nyc, because really by most measures it isn't. again, just my opinion.

well i hate all hot weather, and yes on that account chicago fails in the summer. but i still like chicago in the summertime. there are things going on. and evenings are always pleasant, no matter how hot or humid it gets during the day.

personally, i like the weather of flam, norway. but i'm not sure there are many career opportunities there. so i have re-evaluated how important weather is to me at this stage of life.
