Citi Chicago

Hey guys,

Wanted some insight into exits from this office. How do they compare to other Chicago shops, specifically EBs like Moelis, Lazard, MMs like Blair, Baird, and other Chicago BBs like Credit Suisse? Any comments would be very helpful. Thanks!

The Chicago scene is interesting. I think the loose consensus seems to be that analysts may prefer name-brand BB/EB stamps for PE even for a less than ideal experience, but that the core office and long-term career view for associates+ look a lot more appealing at Blair/Baird.

A few MDs getting shaken up can wreck a BB/EB satellite office, but these top MMs get great deal flow and good pay with a more clearly defined progression.

Rather tough call from my seat. Does 'not staying in banking' mean PE for sure? Corp dev? Would you have a geographic preference or not care at all?

Assuming top MM means one of the two previously mentioned--they have pretty nuts deal flow that can vary a lot (100m all the way up to a few billion deal values, average something like 4/500m) but you are guaranteed M&A mandates and will have plenty of deal experience. On the other hand, if you are dead set on a *chance* at a mega-fund or other of that stature, the truth is headhunters place a lot of value on the BB names you'll very likely get more doors opened for those types of exits.

Congrats on the options and you really can't go wrong.
