Connect with Bain Summer Program
Is anyone a 'graduate' or have any experience with this program? :D I was invited to apply for one of the offices and was curious if anyone could speak a bit about it -- be it the selection process or actual workshop. Thanks!
I attended prior to b-school, as it was the lone pre-mba program open to straight white males. It was held at one location for the whole country so there were ~30 people from 10-12 different mba programs present.
Typical info session, talking about the work, travel etc. Several speakers from bottom to top. At the end you do a mini-consulting case with a team but I don't think this really mattered as far as consideration for employment was concerned.
A month or so into school the recruiter contacted those of us from my school who attended the program for drinks, kind of a informal informational session. Think this is where they really took more note of people. Just shooting the shit, etc. I sent a thank you email to the 2 consultants who were there (one was a partner), expressing my interest..
When the deadline for summer internship drops approached I got an email from one of the guys encouraging me to apply but by that point I had pretty much decided on banking and didn't feel it was worth trying to prep for both types of interviews. Also might have raised an eyebrow if the banks found out i was applying to bain and bain found out they were the only consulting firm I applied to along with 8 banks (as would have been the case).
So overall, the connect thing definitely boosted by interest in consulting at Bain, but didn't end up pushing me to consider consulting over banking.
Yeah they lengthened it to all of the Bain offices now not just the one I applied to and the one you went to ;)
Some dude from McKinsey dropped a 30 oz soda in his lap at work today so I guess its good that you're looking at Bain so you don't have to deal with stupid shit like that.
Anybody know if this still exists?
Is "Connect with Bain" selective or does everyone get invited? (Originally Posted: 06/10/2015)
Got an invite to attend a "Connect with Bain" event this summer. Anyone know if this is a selective event, or if everyone who applies gets invited? I'm getting a little burned out with all that has to be done before school starts, so I'm not sure if it's worth the 12 hour round trip to go to this thing. I don't want to pass up on something that would help in the recruiting process, but if it's just an open house, I'll probably skip it.
Anyone know? Did anyone apply and not get invited?
Thanks.
What school are you headed to? I've talked to plenty of people in/out of my program (M7) that say these don't hurt but they don't help, you'll get all the opportunity you need in the normal recruiting cycle. Those that are below the M7 seem to think otherwise and that makes sense since there are few slots.
Heading to Fuqua. I'm being interviewed both by BCG and McKinsey for their scholarship programs, so I'm reasonably confident that I'll do fine when recruiting starts. Your answer helps--thanks. I'm still curious to know if everyone is invited or not, but it's sounding like maybe it's okay to sit this one out.
Also - three of those I asked were ex or current MBB.
Awesome, thanks. That's helpful to know.
Can't imagine it is too competitive. I got invited to a Connect with Bain event.
I'm heading to M7 but fairly non-traditional background, so who knows, maybe that's what it is.
