Currently in Business school...
I am currently in business school majoring in Finance, I am highly considering double majoring. Question is, which other major should I pick. As of now I am contemplating Finance and Economics or Finance and Accounting. I do not have a particular job in mind as of yet, but I am very interested in the aspects of Wall Street. I love the idea of becoming a broker. I completely understand that landing a job on Wall Street is no simple task, and is continuing to become more and more rigorous. I just would like to know which of the two (FInance and Economics, or Finance and Accounting) would be more susceptible of the Wall Street side of things.
major doesn't really matter for business school, all recruiting starts before you even pick one.
No need to double major.
You say "Business School" but my first reaction was "this guy is in an undergraduate business school". Am I wrong? Are you working towards your MBA?
If not, undergrad double major can matter, as long as you do well in your courses.
1 major + good grades > 2 majors + not good grades
When I was first out of undergrad, my accounting courses were as useful as my finance courses.
You are correct, I am a junior undergrad. At my particular university all of the business classes basically pertain to all of the same majors up until the very end. In other words all of the classes I am currently taking for finance, I could just as well redeclare my major tomorrow as either marketing, or business management etc. again these are just examples on how my university operates. So basically what I am getting at is, I am going to have and take every class as I would for any other type of business major, so I do not really see how much more difficult it would be to add another major... Then again this is why I am here trying to get advice. Sorry if I posted this thread in the wrong forum, I am fresh on this site and am still trying to figure it out. Thanks in advance for the replies, I very much appreciate all of the input.
The type of job that you would be targeting would definitely help dictate which second major is best suited for you. I would spend some time really thinking about what you might like to do and then go from there. Some jobs on wall street a second major in Accounting would be best whereas other it would be Economics, so in all honesty it's hard to say without an idea of the role. You do mention a broker job though, so for this I would recommend economics and learning the different nuances and dynamics of the different markets, economic news impacts, etc.
Very good advice, thank you for your input. I think if I could do anything I would love to do things in investment banking or brokerage. Sorry I was not clear on a specific career other than broker in my first post.
