Dinged online for being sick
I applied for an IB internship with CS in London a few weeks before Christmas. Two days ago I received an email inviting me to tests. At the time I was quite ill and the email did not disclose the deadline for completing the tests. I sent a short and respectful email to HR saying that I am ill and asked how many days I have to complete the tests.
2 hours later I received a rejection email.
Moral of the story? Assume HR are gods and don’t give them any reason to ding you. And if you are sick, just do the tests.
Follow up on your previous email. Could be an error.

You probably shouldn't be working in IB if you can't take a simple online test/hirevue because you're sick.

Wanted to give myself the best chance and I had fever, not just a cough or a runny nose.
Not to sound like a hardo but this is kinda true... I had to do a skype interview with the flu and it was horrible, but you can sit there, explain you're ill but this was important to you, have a trash can next to you and pray you don't have to pause your screen to puke.
eh i got sick the day of my flight up to NYC for a superday.
my contact there said a few people in the office got sick and that was part of why they dinged me
they wouldnt put me in a hotel for flying across the country. its not like I could afford to ask to reschedule

he just asked for a deadline, not an extension. if anything, asking for a deadline is a good sign in a potentisl candidate...

I dont know friend, I just got over a flu with 6 days of fever and I contemplated just killing myself after 3 days of no food and maybe 2 hours outside of my bedroom.
HR is always the dickiest part of the bank from my experience. straight up milfs in their early 30s who think they run the show. i love stomping on them while theyre down, they fear my presence. not the innocent college grad no longer, one day i'll run this place.

it's true man. There's a total power-skill mismatch. Low skilled individuals with inordinate power over employees. It's awful. I'll spare you my horror stories. Safe to say, one never, ever wants to talk with HR.

Call them. Literally go on LinkedIn, find someone's name. Call the general line and ask for x person. Explain your situation and what happened. See what they say. Can't hurt. If they are not chill about it, it was not meant to be.

Amazing they'd send out a take home exam with no deadline. I mean WTF. HR is usually incompetent but that's another level.
It's quite late for London IB recruiting so you may have been rejected because they filled the position or they already had sufficient candidates for the next rounds of interviewing.

Had an interview with Citadel. Got a brutal concussion and asked to reschedule 3 days later. They ignored me then filled the role with another candidate. It sucks but it happens.
Sounds brutal indeed. Tbh I’d hate to work in an environment where even average people are this brutal. If HR is like this, imagine what MDs must be like. Anyway, hope you are enjoying consulting.
