How did you manage to get an ft offer in Singapore if you're not Singaporean? I thought the government was pretty strict with its protectionism?

Congrats anyway

Yeah, I am interested if you don't mind.

1) Did you do a summer internship in SG too?

2) Did your BB not tell you to apply to HK (or UK/US if you're from there) instead? Have heard this be the case before.

3) Is it common for foreigners to get recruited straight out of undergrad, and if so which unis? HYP/Oxbridge only or are places like LSE and lower tier Ivy's also good enough?

Thanks in advance.

Congrats on the offer!

Not sure about the hotel but would recommend moving earlier to get yourself familiar with the weather, food, accent, dating scene (if applicable) etc

Transport is rather easy/cheap/convenient wherever you stay and most banks are located in the small central area. But rental in SG has been a pain lately so you may want to check that with HR.

On the visa note, just finished recruiting in the region myself (not in banking but spoke to many ppl in finance), have to say that OP got lucky on this one or they really liked you. Afaik the process is easy as you mentioned, but each company has to maintain a certain ratio b/w expat: local hires. Confirmed this with an MD and in his bank most of these quotas are used for internal transfers within the bank (at higher levels) than new grad hires.

Anyway working/living in Sg is an amazing experience hope you enjoy it!

Only BCG out of MBBs said they would consider internationals but I don't think they took any (at A/C level) last year.

Tier 2 is much friendlier, eg. EYP and Kearney are pretty open.

Tbh if you are keen I would consider other offices like Malaysia/Thailand/Jakarta/Vietnam, coz SEA is deemed as one office and consultants are in the same pool and doing exactly the same projects across SEA (depending on interests and competency ofc).

I have quite number of friends at MBB and the general sense I get is it is much more difficult to get internationals to get to MBB in Singapore.

As mentioned in other comments, the govt mandates that firms maintain a certain ratio local/foreigners. MBBs tend to already use up this quota to get their international partners in so there's very little quota for junior hires for internationals.
