Do Banks ever fly out junior bankers on business class?
I’m clearly gassed out by my return offer (US BB in London) and was wondering if there’s any possibility of going to NYC for training next July by business class, or just generally for business trips at the junior level (A&A).
For those about to say that training is going to be virtual next July etc I’m going to report you to the admins for verbal harassment /s
Just my experience, but my EB would book business class if the flight was over 1,000 miles. But in my office analysts rarely ever traveled for meetings, so I never flew business class with them as a result.
Not a chance.
Lol they arent flying you business trips for training
But for my firm i believe 5+ hour flight its business class for juniors
Yes. Same travel policy applies as for anyone on the non MD/ Partner level. And you'll stay in the same hotel as the rest of the team. That said, you probably won't travel much as an analyst at a BB (you would much more at an EB) - and very unlikely for training. But if you're used to usually flying business, and don't want to switch to going at the back (for training), just look to upgrade yourself (either with miles, or a cash 'deal' - I'm personally a loyal BA flyer, here's some insight into price of an 'AUP' or 'POUG')
This guy I know got to go on a roadshow in a private jet at the end of his SA.
Not really gonna travel much at all moving forward as a junior banker I’d assume.
Yeah, you'll get a business class seat on Zoom Airlines, enjoy.
My BB puts you in business class for all international flights (even if it's only 1h flight), however for NYC training it's only economy
As others have mentioned, it's usually some mileage or hour floor before by corporate policy you are permitted to fly business class.
There was a period of time where I was flying from NYC to London every other week as an Analyst and it was business class each time. Then I spent a lot of time flying from NYC to Missouri, and that was toilet class each time.
My group is split across two cities, and I was flown out three times as a first year analyst in domestic first class.
Each company partners with a specific airline to fly to conferences, business trips, and team building. It is much more convenient to book tickets with one airline. Regular customers can receive discounts, participate in promotions and be VIP airline customers. If a company is large enough, it often books business class tickets for its employees. But rank-and-file employees rarely fly first class. When I travel, I only book a seat in business class because I do not want to tolerate babies crying, crowding, and many people in economy class.
Except for very senior people, usually the same travel policy applies for everyone to my understanding.
You just get booked by your travel agency in line with the policy
Flew LH Business number of times as an Analyst/ Associate (Europe -> US/Middle East).
My bank took the time to explain to us interns, who aren’t traveling, exactly what their business/first class policy was. I think it also varied as to if they could expense it to the client or not. Generally it was business for all transcon and international 6+ hours. Any flight length could be first/business for D+. Intl First Class was only allowed for MDs who are traveling with the client on the same flight.
Training is in Europe for us. Not sure what we’d get. Though business class isn’t really a big deal for flights from the east coast to Western Europe given they’re not that long. Extra legroom or just paying for your own upgrade to premium eco would be cool too.
Lol my bank will only let us expense UberX, but they’re are frequently times where Black is cheaper.
No wonder you're prone to getting bullied at work if you're constantly pulling stunts like first-class and uberblack.
At the bank I interned in, all flights for FT training to NY are business class. So I guess it depends which bank you’re at.
At my EB, the training trip was in economy. However any client travel even if its just a one hour flight, is in business.
