Do you use your company laptop for personal browsing when you are on the road?

I'll be hitting the road soon on a project, and was wondering if you jetsetters also travel with your other personal devices (such as laptops or tablets) along with your company laptop, in case you want to browse random websites or watch movies.

On a similar note, how guarded are you when browsing on your company-provided laptop?

I only use my company laptop to browse porn and job sites...

I just bring my iPad for browsing personal stuff and movies/tv shows and that has nothing to do with my company looking at my stuff. Better battery life than any other device and with netflix and Hulu I basically get everything I would want and it's more convenient than sitting there with a laptop on a plane or in the hotel bed. It's not worth bringing a personal laptop unless you think you'll be using word and excel for personal reasons.

I'd just ask what your company policy is and just don't be stupid: it's ok for your history to show cnn.com but it's probably not wise for it to have mydaughterfuckshorses.com.

Unless you are using a mobile based data connection while traveling, i would just be mindful of content. They may get a bit peeved if they pay for your data usage and you watched 10 hours of netfix HD using your aircard and not the free hotel wifi.

Our IT policy expressly allows installation of almost all programs (no torrent) and personal browsing (best judgement during business hours). It's impractical to carry a second laptop, but bills gotta get paid and personal emails answered. iPad for hotel or especially flying (if you can afford not to work in-flight) is a great option. Not that IT is checking up, but they could so I don't browse anything wouldn't be comfortable discussing with my Partner (basically just porn).
