Does Citadel Check Transcript?

Hey Everyone,

Around 2 weeks ago, got a call for an interview with Citadel. They clearly said they had a minimum GPA and my GPA is around 0.1 point away. Do they actually verify via your transcript at any point in this process? I'd hate to lose an opportunity like this because of an old mistake.

At my school our career center sent us some positions to apply for and it looked like their cut off was a 3.8. Not speaking from experience though so could be different.

For what it’s worth I had a 3.85 at the time studying quant finance and had a pretty good resume and was auto rejected for their quant trading internship program. So do with that what you will

Is this Citadel Securities? They've had some phenomenally talented interns these last couple of years. It's no surprise a lot of people are getting auto-rejected. Funnily enough, none of those guys ended up staying at the firm.

Wait so did you lie about your GPA (on your resume or application or wherever) or did you just apply despite falling under the cutoff? The former is a problem but I wouldn’t worry too much about the latter. If it gets to the point they’re doing a background check they’ve already decided to hire you and a 0.1 difference in your GPA shouldn’t matter. Although this is Citadel we’re talking about and they’re known for kind of being dicks.

They reached out to me and said they want to interview me. On the job description online, it said the specified gpa. At no point did I lie to them. Just wondering if it's even worth interviewing with them if they're going to shut me down anyway.

This is not to nitpick - but I can't resist.

No one's time is more valuable than yours. Yes maybe from a monetary perspective because they (the interviewers) make more money their time is more valuable than yours.. But otherwise no dice. They are still human like you and eat, sleep, take dumps and want to get laid. This whole attitude of "I'm more important than you" or "My time is more valuable than yours" is a toxic one especially in our industry and it befuddles me given that all we really do is push money around.

Why? Because it is your life and your time that you will never get back. My conclusion is the same as @mmpm, despite my differing viewpoint. Take the interview - the least you will do is learn something. Do your best, knowing that the chances aren't great but with the aim of at the least learning something.

But don't give anyone, especially in this industry, an inch of preference over your self interests and that absolutely includes your time. People will take take take and rarely give back. I've learned the hard way as have many others.

Don't make the same easy mistakes others have before. Make your own new ones and learn from them.

Good Luck

I used to do Asia-Pacific PE (kind of like FoF). Now I do something else but happy to try and answer questions on that stuff.
