Does he think he's Paul Tudor Jones?
What is it with people in HFs and their arrogance? I've now had some guy postpone meeting me for a job interview 4 times. The extremely frustrating part about it is that on the 4th time yesterday I was already at the office waiting for him. Then his PA comes in while I am dressed in coat and tie and says that he has to reschedule. is that not just damn rude and unprofessional or what?
It'd be arrogant if he was doing it on purpose. Did it ever cross your mind that maybe he has more pending matters to attend to?
Yes, because one person in the industry who might have been swamped with work = all hf managers are arrogant
Try to lower the bar a bit on your expectations of people. Not everyone who doesn't comply to your desires is doing it to fuck with you. Though I completely sympathize with your frustration (and yes, 4 times is a bit much) the guy is almost certainly doing something more important for his business than interviewing you. Try to focus on the fortune of having the opportunity and making the most of it when it does materialize. Humility can go a long way.
That's actually a good interview tactic. If I were him I would have my PA tell me exactly how you reacted after the 4th time.
If you have a problem with this, let this be a lesson on what it is like to work at a hedge fund. If you want to do this, you will do whatever it takes, the market does not have any consideration for courtesies or the way it makes you feel.
interview is a getting to know process from both sides. Keep interviewing with the place, but hopefully you find a much better offer soon and can tell this guy to go screw.
Be patient and hang out for it, dont let a moment of anger spoil everything. Life is such. He may be unprofessional but he does not owe you a living and no need to give you the internship or why to he has to reschedule.
I have had someone in Abercrombie T shirt and jeans interview when I was suit up. And this is one of the mega funds.
Chill man, for all you know his whole portfolio was getting slaughtered when you got there...
offer to be on call for when the guy frees up, even if it's after hours. But that's if you think you really like the place and want to work there.
