Outside of the four main/top offices (San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Boston), it is quite a bit tougher. It's still doable though, even if it's uncommon.

In my experience, if you're outside the main 4 offices it's actually near impossible to break into a good PE firm. I wouldn't describe it as just a bit tougher, but actually insanely tough. One of my friends just went thru PE recruiting from a Texas office and HHs barely wanted to talk to her. She got almost no interviews and told me her experience was looked down upon by interviewers because it was in Texas. I think this sort of attitude is absolute bs but I guess it goes to show how elitist PE is

It depends on what you define as tier 2. Also I still think BCG NY for example is going to be much better than say McK or Bain Dallas for PE exits

McKinsey or Bain in DC, LA, or Atlanta? Not sure if these are all tier 2 or not but on LinkedIn I have seen MF and UMM exits for all on LinkedIn.
