Douchey?
Hey guys,
Would it be "douchey" if I imported my car from Saudi Arabia and kept the Saudi plates? I've been told by some to keep the car here (its a pretty nice car) and get something quiet once I move to the states as to not attract attention (and possibly racist vandals)
Is it possible in NY state ( I googled it up but alas, no relevant results) to drive with foreign plates?
It'd probably be pretty douchey to bring a supercar or luxury car here and not just get American plates. Either import it and put our plates on it or leave it their with your plates.
Is it legal to import it and use the Saudi plates in NY state though (primarily)?
No it is not legal to use foreign plates. Even if you were a diplomat you would have to get US diplomatic plates.
Keep in mind that if you are driving in NY, especially NYC, you are going to fuck up your car something crazy, especially with the salty winter roads.
If you have to ask if it is douchey it probably is
Which car do you plan on bringing?
absolutely.
you sir, are an idiot
You can't have foreign plates... why do you care so much to keep your current plate?
your fellow countrymen in london fly out their cars and keep the plates, it looks pretty sick.
In London you see lots of supercars from the middle east still using their home plates. Looks amazing.

I gotta admit, that looks fly as hell
How much of that is really attributable to the license plate, though?
yes.
Depends on the mold for the license plate mounting. Some cars have different rear molds per region so if you are importing it you might not be able comfortably to fit US plates on the rear boot. I know for a fact that some EU imports have this problem (I have no idea what the size of Saudi plates are); but it really depends on the car.
EDIT: I would also like to add that regardless of your car's license plate mold, you may just want to leave the Saudi plates off to avoid unwanted attention. I've seen plenty of people put US plates in their rear dash in foreign cars to avoid ruining their rear boot with poorly fitted plates (though some states don't allow that).
Birth Date: Aug 5 1993
lol
wow, just wow
Guys at my high school would mount foreign plates above the US plates. That is your only option. And trust me, that is douchey.

Haha I'd forgotten that video. +1 if I had SBs.
Very Douchey, and I'd point out that you are a Douche for even asking.
To paraphrase Dwight Schrute: Whenever I’m about to do something, I think, “Would a douche do that?” and if they would, I do not do that thing. Also, if the question requires even medium-hard consideration, I error on the side of caution.
If I saw your car on the street, I would key it just for the hell of it.
Kenny, Medium-Hard Concentration is my new favorite term
Either a CL63 or an M5. Neither attracts much attention...actually contemplated bringing the SV, but according to Lamborghini USA it would need to be taken to the shop to make it drivable in the U.S. ... Definitely not worth the money needed to do that.
Thanks for pointing out the salty roads...forgot about that!
Yea I really liked how they look on my friends' cars in London and Cannes.
What's wrong with my birthday Barry Allen?
hahahahah
London =/= US. They're far more lax about foreign plates and tags over there, in some districts you see more Arabic plates than English. Over here though you have to register to get diplomat tags or standard citizen tags.
How many different troll is successful pictures do I have to find

With all the shit that has been going down in the middle east I wouldn't bring your car here. When people are racist they don't know (or care) that Saudi is not Afghan, Pakistani, or Palestinian. I just wouldn't risk it.
This makes no sense?
hmm I guess you're right Mmm Beefy, too many people like blackfinancier around.
He is saying that you are likely to commit crimes because you are not white.
Ahh right..I forget my skin color matters
Someone should give a speech about judging you on the content of your character instead or something.
lol hell no. Im not white so your explanation doesnt make sense either haha
Im not a troll, blackfinancier. and what I meant by my comment was that too many people out there are haters like you, no offence intended :)
Too many people like blackfinancier? I thought everybody loves a spoiled rich kid, you don't have anything to worry about. You should just bring the car and make sure you park it on the street.
I hate rich kids.
Don't be such a hater, sir.
What about poor kids?
I should clarify...I hate assholes the flaunt what they have.
Clearly everybody does on this site.
The Douche is strong with this one...
Poor kids are great, work harder than most rich kids....emphasis on MOST before I get raped by all the rich hard working kids on here.
I must agree.
Haha I wasn't calling black financier racist, I was just saying I wouldn't risk my car getting messed with. But since were on the subject of racism...
So let me get this straight your 17 with a CL 63 and an m5? Is Prince Abdullah is your uncle? ......hmmm
I don't hate rich kids, or rich kids that live well. What I hate is the undeserved sense of entitlement and lack of humility that some of them have. I have to say, I see this most prevalent the Saudi rich kids. They act as if they are above others and think it appropriate to rub their wealth on other people's faces. I have witnessed this first hand both in the Middle East and in the United States. The first instance was when I was a senior cadet at a service academy and a new freshman, international exchange cadet, from Qatar was one of the new trainees. While most of the guys at the academy had to work their ass off to get there, this kid basically was a prince and had no sense of what it meant to be there. (After graduation he would go back and serve in the Qatari military). Guess what, he sucked. The only reason he wasn't kicked out was because he was who he was, and everyone knew it. He made no friends and he relied heavily on his money for people to hang out with him. Total loser.
This is what I mean when I say I don't want everything given to me in life, because most of the time, it leads to having no character, humility, or enough hunger to go out there and kill whats yours. Its like being a domesticated house pet entirely dependent on your masters.
This is from the "saving your bonus" post when I was talking about how it probably isn't wise as an analyst to buy a 5K watch or 2K suits because it B-school is around the corner. Konig here shows exactly what I am talking about.
Will you loosen up a little? I was just teasing you about how your country doesnt give as nice scholarships. keyword: teasing.
Where is rebelcross? THIS KID IS WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT BEING PAMPERED.
Don't you understand though? Everybody pay close attention: they LOVE the fact that it bothers you. Think about it, the idea of walking down the street and being hated because you're so much better off than anybody else. Don't you realize how powerful that makes miserable people feel? Especially people who are otherwise useless, who have otherwise accomplished nothing. There's a reason entire cultures have been molded upon this concept, those in control would have it no other way. For the same reasons somebody like an Emperor Qianlong might have a person executed for presenting a plate the wrong way, or, on a more minor scale, the same way your MD purposely makes you work over the weekend on something he will not look at until two weeks later.
These people understand that driving a car with Saudi plates on American territory with no regard for American law or assimilation would be offensive to the population at large. If it weren't offensive, where would the pleasure come from? Money is just paper, it brings no joy unless used. If you use it by yourself...then the things you have purchased are just that: "things." However, if you are to use it in the presence of others in the context of human society, that money becomes much more, it becomes envy, it becomes power, it becomes everything. Just the fact that they put this question out there, just to put it in your heads that this perversion upon your culture (a culture which money has made them superior to, unlike you who is a cog of that culture) could be a reality gives them pleasure. This, my friends, is the sickness of the human condition.
That's why it's best not to get roped into these arguments. Your anger is feeding their pleasure. You are feeding their sickness. Without your anger, theirs is a useless existence. An existence that will one day die away, just like the poorest pauper who ever walked the land.
I would have given you all my SBs if I had any. Do you mind if I save this?
"These people understand that driving a car with Saudi plates on American territory with no regard for American law" ^That's why I asked if it was illegal. Now thanks to your philosophy, **ck them. You're right.
since when Saudis actually work?
finish your degree and go back home to work for your dad, isn't that the plan?
Dude, in NYC no one if going to give a shit about your M5.
This
No offense but importing a 500+ hp car that gets
LOL . Konig wants to get out of the ME before the protests hit home. Not everyone in SA has M5's and servants.
FYI Konig, lot of jews in NYC. Considering you don't think Israel will be around in the future you might not want to advertise your Jersey Shore Arabness.
An M5 in Manhattan is not douchey.
Careful, you're treading on thin ice with that kind of language.
facetious
Assuming you get a job as an analyst, I strongly suggest you import the Lambo SV in that case , with the liscence plates and all! The MDs will love it!
Answer: Yes super douchey.....also i will likely key your ride.
By the way what are you gonna do with your private jet while you are in NY?
I know that you can import a car (not new) from Dubai to USA and keep the number plate from Dubai for a year. I believe same would apply for a can from SA .
Hey guys, I am bringing my 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5SL from Ohio to NYC and parking it near my parent's house in Staten Island. Would it be douchey of me to do this? I mean, the car has leather seats and a BOSE stereo system. I don't want anyone to think I am pretentious.
I think you're walking a fine line there...so long as it doesn't have navigation or a sunroof I think it's probably okay, but check with one of the MDs before you commit to driving it over.
show off
It may be kind of douchey, but it will probably help get you laid. The only thing girls like more than a douchebag, is a douchebag, with a nice car, and a foreign accent.
We are talking an M5 here..... It won't help you get laid most women can't tell the difference between a 535 and m5 look exactly the same....so what is going to make them think you are balling?
I bet if you tell her that the E60 M5 comes with MacPherson struts and an F1 inspired launch control system she'll think you're cool.
Konig, if you're so damn rich than why not just get a car out here.
You know what? I'm sorry for even asking. The whole point of this thread was to determine how people would react to having foreign plates (keying the car) on and whether it was legal or not.you guys looked at the avatar and automatically multiplied the hate in your responses by 10.
The only reason I specified which cars was because manbearpig asked, not because I wanted to rub it in anybody's face.
And for people like jct00001 who think all of us here are like that Qatari prince, that IS NOT true. I worked every summer for the past 5 years at a cement factory. Before anyone tries to be a smartass and says I sat on my ass in the office, NO, I was the lowest bitch on the totem pole. I carried the cement bags and put them on the truck and wasn't even paid, all day every *ucking day of every *ucking week in the summer. I actually started out cleaning the floor before being "promoted" the 3rd summer. I clocked in at 6 in the morning and didnt leave until 8. No *ucking labor laws to say how many hours I can work in one shift and the conditions around me. What did you do in your summers? Work at Subway? GAP?
I worked for it. in real life you dont get the same stuff if you really were a factory laborer, but atleast I know what real work tastes like. I understand the true value of money despite what you think of me. How could I not understand it when my fellow laborers came to work with half a bun of bread and I went home to everything I had.
So before you generalize that an ENTIRE region is like this, have the courtesy to atleast know the person better before making assumptions, please. Not all of your fingers are the same. The only reason Im offended is because you ASSUMED I was like the Qatari prince when in fact Im not. The cars I listed in my response to manbearpig are owned by older relatives who were willing to give me a car that they did not want or couldnt sell.
I don't give a fuck where you're from. If you post the way you post, chances are your head isn't on right. That's why people jump on you, not because you're from the Middle East.
Im sorry but you dont by a 100k USD car by working at a cement factory where you didnt get paid...
This is SPARTA!!!!!!!
sigh
