EB vs. PE @ Family Office
Looking for advice on the two different paths. Made a throwaway account for this.
Background: non-target, previously summered in banking and PE. Long term goal is to be on the buy side and this FO opportunity seems appealing but it won't leave me with any FT banking experience to have as foundation if things don't work out at the FO.
Can anyone at a FO or with FO insights provide some guidance here on what to expect and if banking would be better to do first?

Hey asdjl, I swear if I had a silver banana for every lonely thread I posted too I'd be richer than @compbanker ...

Well known / big time family office? What are backgrounds of people that work there?
Not known at all, it's quite small. It's run by tech based entrepreneurs, so no formal deal making background. That's part of my concern as well that I won't get the proper deal experience
Yeah, it's a risk. I would do the EB, and you can always do family office after 1-2 years of that. The name brand will also help. You'll be more of a known quantity after some time at an EB. I would only consider the family office if you hated banking after an internship or if it was a big one - like Michael Dell's.
Out of curiosity, is it ICONIQ? Feel free to pm if you don't want to reveal your identity
I worked at a Family Office doing PE as an analyst. The experience was great, but because it's not a large or established firm, there wasn't much structure or formal training so I can't recommend it as someone's first job out of college. I would instead do the EB and then recruit for similar family office roles in 1-2 years.
