Elon Musk BROKE?

I found this article in the NYT very interesting:

"He says he invested his last cent in his businesses and is living off loans from his wealthy friends. He subsists, according to court filings, on $200,000 a month and still flies his private jet."

"I'd like you to lend me some money"

Etymology is from the cartoon "Popeye", where the character Wimpy would frequently utter this phrase. He was a glutton, and would consume burgers at a ferocious rate but could rarely pay for his habit. The phrase implies the underlying feeling that the person will unlikely actually pay for the hamburger (or whatever) on Tuesday (or ever, for that matter.

I told my bank that I'd gladly 'pay them tuesday for a hamburger today' to buy that new sportscar, but they wouldn't approve me.

Key words in the Elon Musk story: "credit" and "divorce"

Nuff said.

Spacex is an amazing company that already has a multibillion contract with the government and a fairly full launch list for the next 3 years. They have 1 type of engine and two types of rockets now (Falcon 1 and Falcon 9). The company is ingenious and is "the southwest airlines" of commercial space. Spacex has also posted profits for the past 4 years. It is a great company that has successfully reduced costs.

I'm actually reading Felix Dennis's (the founder of Maxim Magazine among others) book right now, and he says Musk's situation is entirely common among the extremely wealthy. He admits that he's gotten by on loans from month to month, and he readily admits he's worth somewhere between $400-$900 million. He also says that any extremely wealthy person who can narrow his net worth down to a tighter range than that is lying.

I was pretty shocked when I read about Musk a few days ago, but then I read Dennis's book and realized it's not that big a deal. Musk's soon-to-be ex-wife seems to understand that as well.

Movie Tony Stark is based on him (Elon Musk). Enough said, when fictional super hero characters are based on you. He's the man.
