European Intern in New York

Hi all,

I've been selected for an internship in NY starting in June. As an european student, I'm really excited but the thing is I don't have any place to live in yet and I don't know anything about New York.

Basically, what I'm looking for is an appartment (alone or roommate, I don't mind, although I guess it would be less expensive to go with the roommate solution) which is furnished and most importantly, which is close to my work (I'm going to work on 787 7th Ave so if I'm correct, it's Midtown).

The perfect plan would be to find a place where I can walk to work (as I will probably work long hours, that's definitely very important for me). But If the place can also be located somewhere it's easy to move from (subway) it's even better.

So I'm open to any advice on how to find an appartment (or roommate) in NY knowing that I can't visit them before.

How do foreign students do to find a place in NY ? Do you guys have any particular website I can use ? Is it really necessary to pay a broker to find something ?

Thanks !

I think it might be too late, but some NY colleges have summer housing. So you could check for NYC schools first. Also, if you have facebook, join this facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/507415426044858/. I see a lot of students on there renting out their rooms for the summer so you could skip the broker process like that. There are also a lot of people there looking for roommates as well. By the way, the general rule is that the further away you are from Manhattan, the cheaper the housing is. Good luck with your search! Sorry I couldn't provide more help because I commute :(

You can always try to find some deal through Airbnb. Some guys on there are willing to agree on feasible rates if you take it for longer. Otherwise you'll have to look for something when you're there. Feel free to PM me, maybe I can help you out a bit.

I'm talking about liquid. Rich enough to have your own jet. Rich enough not to waste time. Fifty, a hundred million dollars, buddy. A player. Or nothing. See my Blog & AMA
