Finance at a big tech firm>Buyside?

I know this is not a traditional path by any means, but is moving from finance at a big tech firm (Amazon/Apple/Google/Facebook/Microsoft) to the buy-side (PE or HF) a possible move? Or would one be stuck in tech indefinitely?
