Unless the match is fixed Floyd Mayweather will win. The spread on Conor is a bet that the match is going to be fixed pretty much. I talked with a well known sports bettor the other day and he believes that the appropriate spread is something like +1100, and I'm seeing shit like +515/-690 on betonline. I think that's pretty much free money.

Actual payday is unknown right now but Conor will probably net $80-$120 mil for this between sponsors and revenue sharing. Unsure with how Floyd will fare but it'll probably be in excess of $300 mil. He is the one coming out of retirement for this after all to reach 50-0.

I want Mayweather to win because I have money on him. Again I think that the current lines are ridiculous and are basically printing money against hopeful MMA fanboys who have no idea what Conor is up for. Conor will either get knocked out early on, but if he somehow survives all 12 rounds, Floyd will win by unanimous decision. But think about how Conor can survive for 36 minutes when MMA fights that go the distance last for 25 minutes and usually end well before that.

let's see Paul Allen's card

I'm putting my money on McGregor, figuratively and literally. There is a real chance that McGregor is insane and I doubt that Mayweather can hang for long with someone like McGregor over 12 rounds.

Mayweather had no problems against the likes of Shane Mosley, Juan Manuel Marquez, and Manny Pacquiao. There is no reason why McGregor would be an issue.

Congrats on the dumbest statement of the day.

There can be a case made for McGregor (I don't buy it, but there is a case); however, being "insane" and stamina certainly aren't the case. If this gets to the 6th round I'll be spending my Mayweather money.

Guys....guys...they're both winners for taking home 100+ million dollars each.

That said here is how it will unfold, Conor's chin is very strong, he is used to getting hit with 4oz mma gloves, and Floyd doens't have the knockout power that a lot of Conor's mma opponents have. You will see Floyd try to dance like he did with Manny, making it a war of attrition. What will be interesting here is that they are both counter fighters, both fighters wait for the opponent to move and time the counter beautifully. Now Conor has been aggressive in fights but to last 12 rounds he is going to need to converve energy, knockdowns are harder wearing 8oz gloves compared to 4oz gloves.

My own personal opinion is that once in the ring Conor should low kick and knee Floyd. He may lose on points or have the fight declared a no contest but he essentially tricked Floyd to fighting an MMA bout. Even if he loses the decision this way, you knock Floyd out with a knee and it will usher in the death of boxing by proving MMA is more effective.

You're an idiot if you bet on McGregor, Mayweather is free money. This is like putting a tennis player against a table tennis player or worse; two different sports - Floyd is the most advanced boxer of all time and McGregor will look silly since, while he's a good striker, he is just a semi-skilled amateur boxer. Pacquiao couldn't touch Floyd, McGregor won't get near him with those big ass gloves they use.

I think we shouldnt underestimate Conor. Think of it from a mental standpoint, conor has fought in the UFC, there are many things that happen in the UFC that arent applicable to boxing, kicking, grappling, etc etc. Normally, he would still have to think, anticipate and react appropriately to each of these, in the ring, he wont have to. With training i have faith conor can get up to standards quickly. Now mayweather should still win, but i think conor will really give him a run for his money, and may surprise us all.

Why do you think he could get up to standards quickly when people who have been boxing and only boxing since they were 10 years old and at the highest levels, were not able to get up to standards to beat Floyd? He's seen way harder punchers, way faster punchers, way better movers than Conor Mcgregor his entire life.

Ok my thoughts on this:

Aside from the boxing skill gap, this is an absolute stylistic nightmare for McGregor. Diaz proved that McGregor completely falls apart when fighting on the inside. He's only effective as a striker when he can throw bombs from the outside. The problem is that just won't work against Mayweather. As an entirely defensive-style fighter (and a master at it) Mayweather can neutralize McGregor easily from the outside. So Mayweather will spend the first rounds making McGregor frustrated by not letting him land anything from the outside. Then in the middle of the fight McGregor will start coming into close range. And that's when Mayweather will counter the shit out of him and beat him to a pulp.

I don't see any strategy that McGregor can execute that will win this fight. He has one good punch (left straight) at one range (outside). Unless Mayweather has gotten ridiculously rusty after retirement there's just no way he loses.

I'm betting on Donald Trump showing up in the middle of the fight and beating them both with a chair, he will also powerbomb McGregor for being an ahole.

You killed the Greece spread goes up, spread goes down, from Wall Street they all play like a freak, Goldman Sachs 'o beat.

Bottom line, Conor only has a punchers chance within the first 1-3 rounds. Mayweather is too much of a professional and has out defensed numerous boxing assassins out there to take Conor too lightly. The only thing Conor is banking on is him catching an "old" rusty Mayweather & be more awkward than anyone Floyd has faced. That being said, Mayweather historically has dealt with layoffs well and is know for always working and most likely won't have lost much of his physical form.

Despite my words, I've been a day-one McGregor fan, following him back since his Cage Warrior days. I'm talking back in the day when your average joe blows were jacking off to any Anderson Silva highlight they laid their eyes on. So in the spirit of that, I will maintain my LONG position on McGregor and will willingly stomach the highly probable downside to that investment.

I think they both have a lot to lose, and limited upside (except for the stupid amount of money they will be making... can't forget about that....)

Connor loses - people will say they just got overhyped by him and he wasn't as good. Results in Floyd going 50-0 ad hitting that perfect number

Mayweather loses - Loses his untarnished record would have to be devastating. Especially to someone who isn't a "boxer"

...

I think you have this the wrong way around. All to win little to lose. Conors loss would not transfer over to mma. Also, Floyd is on his way out and I dont really think he cares that much about a loss. If anything, a loss vs Conor would set the path for an even bigger rematch a la Diaz McGr 2

I hope this will happen. Not too sure that Mayweather will just destroy him, because you can't forget that McGregor is insane, literally.

This isn't going to happen. He's doing this so people can be ready when he fights a washed up pac-man in a year or 2. Mcgregor would get destroyed in a boxing match. Floyd is the best defensive fighter of all-time. He'd pick him apart with counterpunches.

Would not want to see either fight. As has been mentioned before in Boxing Rules Mayweather would win in MMA McGregor would win. I don't care how good Conor is if your fighting style is limited from what you are used to it would be a hindrance.

While boxing is beautiful to watch, it's time is over. Any sport with the fewest rules is my favorite. Bellator not allowing elbows, I mean come on? The only thing I really have a problem with is BJJ. It has to be nerfed in some way. It is too effective in the ring, however in "real life" some of these mounts or positions opens you up to the illegal rabbit punch or back of the head punch. Now should this be allowed in the sport, no. But does this mean it is the most effective, also no.

LMAO boxing isn't going anywhere. Just look at the May-Pac fight. Any sane person knew floyd would win in boring fashion and yet it was the highest PPV fight ever. Sure, the heavyweight division has been dead since Lewis and Tyson retired but hispanics and blacks will always have an interest. I think the biggest problem they have is that there are too many belts and divisions.

Mayweather and McGregor are two of the best hype men ever for their respective sports, the kings of shit talking. As soon as an opponent is announced, they each begin their verbal assaults. It's a great way to get in the other guy's head, but it also creates a reason for viewers to care about the fight in general.

If this is just a straight up boxing match, I can't see these two guys legitimately taking this serious. Mayweather has an undefeated record against professional boxers. What makes Connor so deadly in the octagon is the threat of his kicks and elbows. Take that away and I don't know if he can hang with Floyd.

These guys are just looking to cash in. Hype this up enough and maybe Floyd can get half of what he got for fighting Pac-Man (In all, he made $220mm).

kidbrown:
....but I don't even understand why McGregor wants this fight....
I am actually kinda surprised that you, as a member of WSO - a finance forum, don't see why. It's about the money. McGregor has not been quiet about money since the day he stepped foot in the ring. He wants money period and boxing is his best chance at a huge pay day. If anything it is harder for me to see why Floyd would want this. He is already insanely rich and at this point I may think he would value his untarnished record over $ now. However, perhaps he only cares about money also. Then again he probably knows he will win and get the 50 - 0 so it may be worth the risk. In my eyes McGregor (one of my top 5 favorite mma fighters) will definitely loose but he still has a punchers chance or knocking Floyd out. Floyd is super rich McGregor is just rich. McGregor want to get closer to being super rich.

What kind of rules are we talking about?

Because at the end of the day, it goes down to that.

Never discuss with idiots, first they drag you at their level, then they beat you with experience.

A big factor you need to consider regarding McGregor's "punchers chance" is that there is a significant difference between the 4oz gloves he uses in UFC vs. the 10oz gloves he will be using in the boxing match against Mayweather. McGregor has absolutely no chance against the best boxer in the world and arguably ever. I have Mayweather by TKO Rd. 6, but it may end earlier if McGregor is reckless. Ask Berto, Pacquio, Maidana, Canelo, Cotto, Mosely, Guerrero and the other 40 fighters he's dismantled how difficult it is touch Floyd. McGregor is in over his head, but this should be an entertaining event.

-- Who will win? Mayweather, easily

-- in what timeframe? Within the 1st 6-7 rounds, TKO

-- how much is the actual payday for these guys? McGregor will see $100 million, I imagine Mayweather will see $175+ million

-- Who do you WANT to win? McGregor, even though I hate his braggadocio, Mayweather is a woman beater

Will not be watching. This fight is a straight up gimmick. That fact is obvious and goes without saying, but it's good to remind yourself. Also, to make Mayweather's poetic style of boxing entertaining to watch, he has to fight someone with a realistic chance of knocking him out, and Mcgreggor is not that guy. Also Mayweather is old and doesn't bring the same excitement he did 2007 - 2014.

This is a bigger gimmick fight than Mayweather - Pacquiao, which was hyped up to no end, meanwhile both fighters tacitly went into the fight looking for a 12 round decision and pay day.

Connor is giving something up. Mayweather isn't giving anything up. I don't bet but would love to see a 12th round kick to the dome. Preferably from Floyd.

I'm way more excited for a possible August Loma vs Rigo, Joe Smith Jrs fight in July, Broner vs Garcia, and obviously ggg vs canelo. Was also way more excited for Ward vs Kovalev 2 that got no press because of this stupid mega money fight. Just take it for what it is, ufc and conor have insane fan boys though. I haven't seen such illogical dik riding in a long time, seems to really come with ufc.

Conor has a chance ............................................. I'm excited to see the fight

Conor talked extremely well, but Floyd is still going to kick his ass

No one is going to kick anyone's ass. Its boxing. Its a glorified pillow fight.

This isn't UFC.

how big is mayweather's ego? mayweather loss. think about the upside for a rematch. mayweather, who is greedy AF, takes home 200-300 this fight and at least that in a rematch. will mayweather take the blemish on his record for a 500-600m opp? thinking yes...as big as his ego is, all the man sees is dollar signs.

So you're saying an undefeated, already very very rich boxer will throw a fight to an amateur because his ego wants more money..... the same huge ego that didn't stop him from throwing a fight..... this is a massive contradiction.

rich? multiple reports the dude overspends and who knows how close to bankruptcy...and yeah, when those types of numbers are being thrown around, i think he'd consider it. whats the bigger hit to his ego - one loss or failing to maintain his lifestyle?

Was hoping Conner was going to cover some distance in his training and at least show something to make the fight interesting. This fight will be a complete embarrassment and social media will not be happy about it.
