From big 4 consulting to PE - what are my chances?

Background:

- Currently a senior consultant at a big 4 with a handful of projects under my belt.

- Hoping to write CFA level 3 in May, I was planning to write it this summer but it got delayed because of covid. I am acing the mocks consistently now so I am pretty sure I can pass it.

- Completed the FMVA

- Undergraduate in finance from a non-target

- I have a stack of trade thesis I write to trade my personal savings (mostly swing trading in FX and indices) I can show off in interviews and I made decent returns over the years. The analysis is all in macroeconomics. I know this is more hedge fund related than PE, but I'm hoping this can show that I'm not just an academic-finance guy.

Questions:

- given my above experience and qualifications, what are my chances of breaking it into PE in Canada?

- How should I go about "applying" for PE firms? I am noticing most PE firms don't have careers sections where I can just apply like most companies. What's the typical route here?

- Will creating investment pitches in public companies increase my odds?

Don't want to lead you astray but a few questions that could help you get better answers:

1. What sort of consultant are you? Strategy& and PwC Tech consulting provide different skillsets so providing some color could be helpful for other people who can answer.

2. Are you interested in Operations roles or only investment?

1. My work is in process analysis and improvement, supply chain management, and automation. I strictly work in finance (i.e. accounting) functions.

2. Only investment.
