Nothing pisses me the fuck off more than logging onto Facebook at 7AM and habitually seeing some 22 year old former high school classmate write something like "ughhh i can't believe im up early today :( FML." or (and this gets me every time), "insert name has to get up at 9am tomorrow. fuck this shit" and then have a string of comments from a bunch of other guys saying "it's ok! you can do it!" or "i feel you man! life ain't easy!"
like FUCK. Maybe we should all have mandatory army conscription or some shit. where are young americans' work ethic these days? No wonder our country's going to shit.

not complaining -- i mean, their lives don't affect mine. im just speaking my mind, with a couple of "fucks" thrown in to make it seem like im complaining.
haha i check it once every morning and once at night for wall posts and messages and just to generally see what everyone's up to....i don't really see my closest friends all that often because of work, and career-related stuff...text messages really only go out friday and saturday nights so keeping tabs on close friends during the weekdays = facebook. but generally not that much of a facebook guy anymore though - my last status update was May 23rd haha

Totally agree. I regularly pare my list down. Facebook really has lost my interest. People with annoying posts or general immature bullshit get the remove from friends click real fast.

Unfortunately most people here, myself included, equate "normal" with "average" and "mediocre". I personally don't have any desire to be 26, with a wife who is knocked up, who has never worked a real full time job but has 4 years worth of students loans, with a dog (vet bills), with a mortgage payment (and repair costs), a car payment or two, the aforementioned student loans about to kick in with no savings. Outside of the dog, none of that sounds remotely fun or interesting to me.
I realize that is rather specific but it is based on a friend I know back home. He makes about $50k now (not too bad back home) but recently took a $30k pay cut because of some restructuring they did at work. There is no way I would have let my wife get pregnant, (1) because kids can always wait, (2) I am selfish and would be pissed that she was trying to get out of having a real job (for the first time in her life) by getting knocked up and (3) because there are a shit ton of bills to pay. I would have made her work until the loans were paid and there was a decent nest egg. My buddy, who loves his job and is really good at it, basically works on a commission...and that is the last place I would want to be with a kid on the way. BUT, well there is half a dozen other couples (nearly all of them bf/gf from HS) who have a has and a dog or two and a new born or a kids on the way...so we have to fit in!
Bullshit. In my opinion, she is being selfish, he is being a pushover and they both are being entirely irresponsible. But that seems to be par-for-the-course now a days.
Also, working a "9-5" does not guarantee life outside of work. Maybe it gives you the availability, but it certainly doesn't guarantee the funds to partake in the action, nor does it somehow imply that you have a handle on things. I admire the people on this site (for the most part) because it take a lot of foresight to push aside the "fun" things in life while you are in school and for your first few years of work in an effort to get ahead and allow themselves the opportunity to do what they want in the future. I've always said, "You will always have to make a sacrifice, it's just a matter of when". And that holds true, save for the extremely wealth, the extremely poor and the extremely lucky.
I'm not interested in being average.
