GE's FMP in 2017
In exploring this forum I've seen a lot of praise for GE's FMP and seemingly a general consensus that it's the top financial leadership development program. However the most recent posts I've seen about it are from 2013 and GE has obviously suffered a lot since then. Have GE's woes affected the quality or reputation of its FMP?
Have a buddy doing FMP now, he enjoys it, he's second rotation and first rotation was more FP&A/finance type stuff while his second rotation is a little more accounting type work. Still a great feeder into GE Audit services, which is apparently 100k+ per year and you do a few years and then can move into leading a smaller division, so I'd say the opportunity is still very solid
GE is struggling badly if you want to go into corporate or transactional finance. Capital only has 3.5 remaining segments (down from 28 in 2015). However, if you can do 2 years FMP, then 2+ years CAS, it will be very professionally rewarding.
Problem is non FP&A/Audit exit ops. If you want to go to grad school or stay at GE doing FP&A or ops risk at a location of THEIR choosing, you'll be ok. Anything else, it will be tough. Some CAS superstars go to McKinsey as associates or join Blackstone's back office/pe training program. It's rare, but the program is PHENOMENAL prep.
BB or MBB would be better. If those aren't options, bust your ass at GE and do CAS. CAS Base comp is like 80 year 1, 90 year 2, and 110 year 3. You don't pay for ANYTHING and if you 'live' in Florida/Texas/Nevada/Washington, you pay no state income tax. Your take home pay is higher than BBer in NYC who makes 130k.
Thanks for the help. To be clear, by CAS you mean Capital Aviation Services? Would also like to hear your opinion on GE Energy Financial Services
CAS = Corporate Audit Staff. GECAS = Capital Aviation Services, generally.
EFS is one of the best players in the energy finance industry. It is highly respected, particularly in renewables, and has one of the best training programs (many places don't really even have formal training programs for energy).
GE FMP Hours (Originally Posted: 07/20/2013)
I am interested in joining GE Capital FMP. I was wondering if anyone can give me some insight on the hours that a typical FMPer is expected to work. Also on average what percentage of people continue at GE in comparison to people who pursue other opportunities like grad school?
I'm not sure. First, I'm sure it's dependent on the group/company/rotation you're doing. Second, I've heard hours are closer to, but not quite, Big 4 hours. So 50-70ish/week
The hours depend on office and if it's a busy season. Usually 8/9AM till 6/8 PM. Not banking hours for sure.
I know a guy who used to be in exactly that line - GE's FMP, under GE Capital. He worked from 8 or 9ish every morning, and usually got off around midnight. Probably one of the harder workers, though.
GE FMP - Summer position (Originally Posted: 03/07/2013)
Anyone know whether GE is still hiring into their FMP program for a summer position? If I networked like hell would there be any hope of getting interviews? I have a pretty solid resume, good reasons for being interested in corp finance, but I screwed up by getting into the game late this year. I'm a soph. so it would be a LOT better than PWM as far as I'm concerned.
Usually they are just finishing up their OCR about this time. There may not be openings in the FMP program, but they do have other programs / internships; not sure as to their availability. I would network as much as possible with any alums there to see if they could help you out.
Good luck.
Going to totally hijack but I've always been curious how well FMP places into business schools - does anyone know?
Places pretty well, although a lot depends on the candidate as you can probably imagine.
As a FMP, you're unique; you aren't the typical IB candidate. B Schools love the GE brand, although GE itself is strongly against MBAs as a path out of the company. They will pay for it if you go part time and sign on for a time commitment afterwards. (2 years per 1 year of B School; if you leave, you have to pay the difference)
In terms of kids leaving the program, I know kids personally who have gone to Harvard and Columbia. I also know part time people in NYU and Kellogg.
Hope that helps.
OP - I think they might be finished recruiting for internships by now although you may be able to luck out if you can secure a fast-track treatment through an alumni etc. Check LinkedIn and filter for both GE and your school.
I know of two people going to top b-schools after they finish their last rotation as FMPs at GE. One is headed to Wharton and another (my buddy) is going to Tuck. They seem to place well outside of the company as well; four FMPs were recruited to Blackstone from GE Capital program last year from what I understand.Know someone who just received an offer for FMP. It is Canada though, so we might be on a different schedule up here in the north
GE FMP Deadline? (Originally Posted: 09/29/2011)
Does anyone know when the deadline is for the GE FMP program (US)? It's not listed on the application page.
I don't know the deadline, if there is one, but I do know they are very deep into the interview process already.
Does this mean that they will not be interviewing any new applicants?
I don't know if they will interview anyone else. You should probably still apply. But there have already been a lot of first round interviews and I'm just telling you that I wouldn't hold my breathe.
Do they recruit on campus at your school? They're big on my campus and they haven't done any interviews yet, though they will be by next week.
No, GE does not come on campus but I do have some alumni contacts who went through the FMP program and are currently in CAS. I just want to make sure that I don't miss a deadline while conversing back and forth with them.
GE Capital FMP Final Round (Originally Posted: 11/30/2011)
Hey all,
What can I expect for a GE Capital final round? The first round phone interview I had was strictly behavioral - should I expect the same here? The itinerary includes a dinner with fellow FMP's the evening before the day-long interview process.
Some older posts said a case study might be included, while others say that it will not be - anyone know what the deal is with that?
Thanks!
PM me. Is this in Stamford?
You will have interviews with staff from all levels of the corporate hierarchy.
When I interviewed, the process was: facility tour / meet & greet...interview 1, interview 2, case study / excel test, lunch...interview 3, interview 4, then interview 5.
Some years they replace the case study and excel test with a presentation.
IBTeaching - pm'd you. The address that I have is for a different city in CT.
The agenda doesn't list anything about an excel test or case study but there is a presentation given by Capital prior to the interviews - maybe that replaced it? The interview time slot is only only an hour and a half so seems odd that they'd only have one or two interviews in order to make time for those things.
Should I leave my Job and go for GE FMP ? (Originally Posted: 10/11/2014)
Hi all
I recently graduated majoring in finance my internship was at GE Healthcare and I got an offer to enrol into FMP ( 4 rotations each is in a different country for 6 months each ) and I found it to be difficulte so I turned down the offer "which is still standing" .. and am now working at EY as an analyst2 in TAS (Transaction Advisory Services) for about 4 months now and the job is alright but boring to an extent (feasibility studies) most of the times the only fun part is the financial modelling ( Which I didn't really have time to fully do yet )
is it a great choice to leave EY and go for the FMP ? Or i'll have a better future staying with EY?
I think the decision depends on what you want long-term.
If you're trying to do banking, TAS isn't the best place to be, while Corp Dev would be a solid end-point if you take GE. Are you sure that the GE offer still stands?

GE Financial Management Program in asset management (Originally Posted: 09/18/2007)
Anyone know anything about the GE FMP program in Asset Management? Compensation, bonus, skills acquired, life after the 2 years? Is it legit?
heard 50K + 1K sign on for all FMP's last year (raise every six months when you do a new rotation)... i believe it's called GE Capital now
My friend has an FMP offer, 55k, 3k signon, and not sure about any bonus. (I'm not sure if this is for GE Capital, but I think FMPs are the same all around)
Is the GE AM part of GE Capital then? What types of duties does an FMP have within AM? Can you go into Investment after the two years?
GE Cap is separate from GE AM. Not sure about AM but in Cap, you're going to be doing 2 FP&A roles, and have a chance at a corp dev role (small chance), or treasury/something related to that.
GE FMP Case Study (Originally Posted: 06/09/2011)
I'm being shortlisted for the final interview for GE FMP where it'll be a case study presentation. What will i be expecting from the case study? What kind of question? Any example?
Thanks very much!
I am also scheduled to take part in an upcoming assessment centre for GE FMP based out of EMEA. In the mail, I have been told that the assessment day would comprise of group case studies, finance/IQ quiz and a set of interviews.
Does anyone know what could be the nature of this group case studies. So far, I have only been taking part in IB related ACs therefore I have little idea of what to expect for a GE FMP case study.
In addition, considering that FMP is far more accounting oreinted than finance yet they would be conducting a finance quiz. Could anyone shed light on this as well.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
GE FMP internship deadline? (Originally Posted: 02/08/2013)
Does anyone know when it is? They don't do on-campus recruiting at my school and I'm trying to apply
If you had taken 30 seconds to Google it, you would know you've missed the deadline.
resume drop ends today at my school
No offense but if you don't have access to OCR - you don't have access to this job.
Not 100% true... but probably 99%+
It's a good thing this wasn't the case for a colleague in my school. Stop making assumptions.
Thanks for the help everyone. I just applied and had an alum refer me internally so I'm hoping it works out! If anyone could whose actually done a summer FMP internship could chim in about how it's like and such, that'd be great.
