GMAT cut-off

(Preface: I searched and found some posts on here from 4+ years ago on this topic, but I wanted to see if the feeling among MBAs had changed in the last couple years)

I know the topic of GMAT cut-off for interview slots at MBB firms has been discussed on here; but I wanted what the consensus is with regard to the cut-off possibly varying from tier to tier. For example, all things being equal with the student's background, does an MBA student at an M7 with a gmat score of 7_ _ get an interview slot whereas the kid at a 10-25 ranked school may need a GMAT 20-30 points higher to get a look. I'm just curious if MBBs gradually raise the GMAT bar as they slide down the list of schools. Obviously they only target the top schools, but it looks like they still hire from the 15-25 range as well. Curious to hear any thoughts / input / experience.

(Disclosure: I have a 710 GMAT so I'm curious if that automatically dings me from interview slots if I don't get into a top 10ish program).

At my MBB, gmat scores is only part of the equation. At the end of the day, we evaluate candidates holistically and pick who we think are the best people. That's where MBA school reputations matter. The further down the list you go, the less interview spots we typically grant. Hence, you may be in a more competitive situation at a non top 10 school (10 slots) with a 710 than if you were at a top 10 school (40+ slots).

ConsultingMonkey4 may have additional insight, but I don't think consulting firms are going to rank Kellogg that far ahead of Fuqua that a 710 from there would hold less weight than a 710 from Kellogg. That feels more like WSO thinking than someone building a schedule for a consulting firm's interview schedule.

But probably makes sense about Emory.
