Goldman Launching National Ad Campaign - Jon Stewart Rejoices
DealBook is reporting that Goldman Sachs is launching a "national advertisement campaign aimed at explaining to average citizens what the company does." This is presumably in response to the avalanche of bad PR (and arguably misplaced blame) Goldman has received during the fallout from the financial crisis.
On one hand, I'm hopeful that the ads are well done and help to educate the pitchfork wielding masses about Wall Street in general. This is the first time in my memory that any investment bank (w/o retail operations) has done national mass media advertising of any kind.
On the other hand, this doesn't seem like it could end well. I'm expecting endless YouTube and Daily Show parodies within a week of the commercials airing.
What do you guys think? Good thing for the Street in general, or a bonanza for Jon Stewart?
LMAO. I just have to go by what we've seen so far. Can you think of anything Goldman's PR department has done right in the past 18 months?
If you do evil shit and you're protected by government officials you've paid off, why isn't that good enough?
Why do you need people to like you too?
Obviously you meant to say "God's work". I guess even Edmundo makes typos.
Well, Capt, I got 3 words for you, spelling out one name.
Lucas.
Van.
Praag.
That's all that needs to be said about Goldman's PR issue.
Looks like Ritholtz is jumping on the bandwagon. There's some pure gold in the comments:

My favorites so far:
Goldman Sachs: We put the douche in fiduciary.
Goldman Sachs: America's Counterparty
Government Bailout: $29 billion SEC Settlement: $550 million Doing God’s work? Priceless.
Really? Bashing GS? Sorry, I just don't get it.
John Stewart rules. Just ask rick sanchez.
Because people on this site are just dumb asses period
