Goldman Sachs Global Investment Research Interview

Hi all,

I have an interview with GS global investment research group this week. I'm interviewing for their portfolio and strategy team.

Any advice on how to prepare. I figured we will probably cover current economic conditions, trends, stock pitch, fit questions. Also, if anyone has interviewed please share your experience.

Thank you in advance.

no you don't need to be an expert in ER, commodities, global macro, credit, etc. all at once I'd say certainly have a few stock pitches prepared, but past that be able to articulate which area you are interested in (macro vs equities vs credit etc), why, and have informed opinions about that topic.

Mostly behavioral and fit. They really care about why you are looking at GIR, and not IBD / S&T.

Also read up on how GIR is structured at the firm. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions, and that shows your commitment to doing it.

all GS first rounds (hk) are pretty straightforward... mostly fit and passion for finance... keep in mind its extremely hard to land GIR... space is very limited.last year they had books of resumes for GIR and only took like 4 5 interns

to clarify, GS ER is not respected b/c it's a prop of the prop desk and all traders for that matter. GS is a hedge fund in some respects, so ER is really a small investment of GS' budget.

wannabeibankerDid they reject you?

Why does it not respected? It's GS!

are you stupid? just because it's goldman does not make it the best. and it's true goldman equity research is not the most respected on the street and is barely hanging on to top 10 status. goldman just doesn't care about the division as much as other banks. it has such limited distribution.

and this is coming from someone who rejected an offer from them btw.
