Golf in the Corporate World

Hey guys,

Just wondering how important it is to know about/play a bit of golf, especially when working in an industry like IB... I understand it's obviously great to have common interests with other members of the IB team (hearing golf is a common one). But just wanted to know a bit more about the emphasis put on gaining knowledge about the sport.

If you decide to play golf, definitely learn the rules and etiquette. Ans don't be one of the guys (or gals) who gets angry after a bad shot. You likely won't be playing often enough to avoid them and it just make you look like a poor sport.

Have played many many rounds of corporate and client golf. It doesn't really matter that you become a good player (although that would be more fun for you), provided you keep pace, and are fun and interesting to be with. 4 hours is a long time to spend with a jerk or with someone who is trying to sell me something the whole time. That said, have done a lot of business on the golf course. Gtreat opportunity for your clients to really get to know you.

Every man should have at least moderate baseline ability to golf, own good golf clubs and show at minimum a modest interest in the game. I don't trust guys who don't like golf.
