Good PC for banking?
So as of now, I have a MacBook Pro that I've been otherwise fine with.
However, This summer Ive gotten the privilege of using a PC for excel and ppt, and I cant go back. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good/cheap PC laptop?
(I know most firms give one but I'm looking for personal use)
Dell XPS 15.
I tried to save $200 on a desktop and got the version with less processing power. Big mistake, shell out the extra money so you can actually use with intense iterative excel models. Also make sure your antivirus is on point.
Get something with an i7 processor. Thinkpad ✓
Agreed, anything with a decent core count to take advantage of multithreaded work loads
Privilege? Isn't your Macbook supposedly the privilege? Dawg anything built within the last 15 years with Excel on it will do.
How dare you bring a tech-savvy mindset to these hallowed halls? Everyone knows you need the latest 12-core processor if you want to take advantage of multi-threading!! On Windows of course, so that the multi-threading never happens because it doesn't work that way, especially not in Excel. And with the latest antivirus so that you can feel the dramatic placebo effect of increased processor overhead and shorter disk life.
Have a SB. It's tough not being an idiot these days. I use a $200 Dell I scored off Amazon. Switching to a Chromebook soon since I heard MS Office is on the Play store.
Here's what I'm using. That's deck sealer/stainer spackled on the screen. It doesn't close. The "n" and "b" keys don't work, which is why I have the external keyboard. But I also have a notepad file with upper and lowercase Ns and Bs because the C and the V and the alt tab still work.
I hear the setup most bankers use is a pc with a i10 Intel Processor (after market cooling fan), 2080TI NVDA IV video card, with 164 GB of RAM (DDR10).
I'd recommend a water cooled setup as well for optimal performance.
This guy fucks
:-)
At home: MacBook Pro At work: Dell Latitude 7490 1.9GHz i7-8650U 14"
The latter is very a good one, I would recommend it
The Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon is probably the best Windows laptop out there.
XPS is great too but the keyboard is a little too soft for my taste.
Microsoft Surface Book
why would you buy a microsoft computer
My brother interned there and microsoft just gave all the interns a surface book for FREE because they knew how shitty the laptop was and no one was buying it
Pretty sure they gave him a Surface because they were at Microsoft.
It's not a bad computer, I just wouldn't pay $2000+ for it. Likewise the MBP is (was* with the new keyboard) an excellent computer, but at $2400+? Fuck outta here.
One of the most ignorant and unintelligent comments I have read in a while. You have zero grasp of technology.
