GPA on P/F option
This is my first semester at a new university after transfer, and has been qui5e an awful one due to corona virus.
My school recently introduced a policy that all students will get grade on P/F base whatsoever with no alternative option. I know I will easily get P marks on all classes I’m taking but it will put me in shoes where I don’t have an official new school GPA yet. What should I do? I can probably explain that on my resume but I have to “choose” one on the online application.
don’t elect P/NC in one of the classes where you can get an A. then, get the A. Your official GPA will thus be 4.0
Do banks care if you actually fail a P/F class?
banks won’t - grad schools will.
it literally says with no alternative option in the original post...
Out of 17 comments, only you read the question.
I'm given no option. It's mandatory P/F and thats why I'm worrying. If I could choose, I would have done what you said
Will MBA programs care if I take corporate finance pass/fail?
Are you familiar with the economic concept of signaling? Assuming your university gives you the choice to choose between a letter grade and the P/F option. Whatever course you choose to take P/F instead of letter grade, you just chose the pooling equilibrium with others who either do not want to do more than minimum work or those who care more about passing than getting accurate feedback.
Bro, judging from the money shit on your comment, you made a rookie mistake of speaking the language that some monkeys do not understand and don’t want to understand.
Do banks care if you actually fail a P/F class?
I imagine they would. At my university P/F is a C- or worse, so failing requires pretty poor results. Not sure if a fail score is different at other unis
Thanks for the advice. I am unsure why three of the negative votes marked my comment as “inaccurate “ and one marked as “spam”. I would love a good and open discussion. Isn’t it what the forum is for?
I think because he said that he has no alternative option to pass/fail in the original post and you implied otherwise.
My University did something similar. It made all classes Credit/No Credit (same thing as Pass/Fail) by default, but you can petition to receive a letter grade for a class. How bad does it look to keep all of my classes Credit/No Credit, or make one of my more tedious classes Credit/No Credit, to business school? I'm a senior with a job lined up (although I'd like to work for more well-known banks down the line).
BB/EB?
No working for a MM, but want to lateral to a BB or EB.
Which country or region? I would be surprised if it was an American University since then you can choose to not have a GPA.
In the United States.
This will not hurt you at all if it's required by your university. Don't worry about it. Schools all over the country are doing this, and this period of time will be remembered/understood by those reviewing transcripts for years to come.

I have never heard of a bank that looks at your transcript during the recruitment process. If they ask for it, it's typically to verify that you didn't lie about your GPA and is done by HR.
Thank you and it is relieving. I’m still wondering what I should put in my GPA spot tho. Should I take to HR?
since it is a university policy, I would recommend asking your registrar’s office for guidance and a possible solution. Are you sure the university did not offer appeal as an alternative? Various universities have decided or are considering the P/F option and practice vary. It is best to ask.
You should put your GPA from before this semester began, most likely. Pass/Fail doesn't impact GPA at any school I know of.
