To add, this is what the offer letter states:

"I understand that in assessing those with a criminal record, the Firm follows the applicable Code of Practice. I also understand that I will be provided with details of any adverse information obtained by the Firm in conducting the criminal record check described and that I will be provided with an opportunity to make representation to the Firm prior to any decision being taken."

What was the actual charge, and ultimately the conviction? Assuming this was a misdemeanor marijuana DUI the details would be relevant. I can't say anything about GS, but there are banks that do not hire applicants with misdemeanor charges. (afaik it takes 7 more years for misdemeanor charges to disappear on a bg check)

Normally you'd only get a felony charge if you had multiple offenses, if you injured someone or similar. If you were convicted of a felony you will most likely not get any offers.

Hi and thank you for the reply. Nobody was injured. I come from northern europe and I am not familiar with the distinction between misdemeanor and felony, but the punishment was to pay a fine (equal to about 300 euro).

The charges were the lowest level conviction for using an illegal substance, and for driving under the influence (2 in 1).

If the charges were in Scandinavia / Europe they wouldn't show up on the US background check. I know banks ask for previous residences, but normally don't always check all countries (this takes a lot of time and costs more as well).

It sounds like a misdemeanor offense. If, for whatever reason, it does show up on the check the 3rd party / the bank will contact you with next steps. Normally they'll allow you to explain the overall situation and then make a decision.
