Has anyone heard of Mangrove Partners?
Have a first round coming up at this firm. Has anyone heard of it? Would really appreciate any color! Thank you!

Surprised to hear they are hiring. Haven’t they lost a huge chunk of AUM over the last 18 months? Thought they got crushed in 2020
They recovered massively this year from what I've heard. Almost back to where they were pre-2020.
Very interested as well. Sounds like this process has been running a few months
Yes. I’ve heard of them before. I think they were active in the hiring market around Jan 2019 or so. From what I remember/know about them, they are a solid distressed shop. Made some money it seems in Peabody. I think the founder went on CNBC or Bloomberg at Sohn or something to talk about how cheap the stock was. I think they have been seeded and/or been a good manager in Greenlight’s Master fund. Not sure how things are with them now as my info may be outdated and/or slightly off based on publicly available information. I think I may have spoken to Phil Lee once too. He seemed like a nice guy. Good luck
Phil is a fantastic analyst and great person. A rarity in the industry.
they’ve been interviewing for past few months. had a couple people leave so looking to fill some bodies. they were a pretty hot fund over last few years except last year when they got crushed, so I’d be careful
Smart guys and very 'value focused.'
Not sure about the hiring process, but seems to be a firm that takes a very deep dive on ideas.
As others noted, it seems 2020 was a difficult year but I wouldn't be surprised if they're having a strong YTD given the names they traffic in.
Best of luck!
Great, thanks all!
data point of one but I knew a guy that used to work there and he was mad smart, so always thought highly of them
A guy I know used to work at Mangrove and left recently, he's a sharp dude, sort of autistic. Had like 9-10 years of experience though - are they trying to hire banking analysts to fill out the replacements?
I'm not sure how much of a training culture there is. Granted I know in 2018 they were hiring and also looking for people straight from Banking to my knowledge.
Watching interviews of their founder will give you a good idea of the folks at that fund. Very smart, very odd.
OP how did the interview end up going?
Founder is wicked good at biotech shorts.
Like Kerrisdale?
more science focused. clearly has some medical training
Would also like to know how the interview went — I have an upcoming first round as well.
Also interested. The process I've heard from them seems very, very atypical.
Had my first round with them. It was a pretty standard fit interview (why do you want to change jobs, tell me about yourself, etc). According to my interviewer the next steps would've been a case study with a presentation/interview with the senior members of the team. I didn't make it past the first round so that's all I can tell you.
