Has anyone worked or known anyone who's worked on Holland Partner Group's development team? I'm choosing between them and another well known developer and would love to hear some insight.

Which office?

Los Angeles - but would welcome insight from any office.

In my albeit limited interaction with him, Clyde Holland thinks he is the smartest guy in the room and he may be, but it comes off a little arrogant (there was a reason he was pushed out at TCR). Objectively, he has been incredibly successful and they build some awesome stuff. The reason I ask is that the culture varies a lot by office.

I really like the Seattle and Northern California development guys and have had great experiences with them, and anyone would be lucky to work on those teams and the projects they have underway. I'm not close to the LA guys, but folks I know like them on a personal level and my guess is that it is also a great place to be. They've got some sexy stuff going up in downtown and West Hollywood that would be pretty cool to work on, but not sure what their pipeline looks like right now. They're super well capitalized which is encouraging given where we are in the cycle so definitely worthy of your consideration.

It's a great name to have on your resume, and you'll get exposure to lots of great, complex deals, and like anything it depends on how comfortable you were with the team you met.

Not sure what your other choice is but I would be hard pressed to find a better gig than starting off at Holland. Just from a sheer experience standpoint I know they run fairly skinny, which will be a blessing and curse depending on your ability to keep up, but nonetheless you will learn a ton. Whether it's type I, III, V podium, wrap, high rise etc. they do it all and always seem to be active.

I know a few of the SoCal guys and it's a solid team. They've got probably 10 or so projects going on in LA/Long Beach right now and a few in SD as well. As mentioned they are well capitalized but more importantly Clyde, aka "Clyde the glide Holland", has been through just about every cycle in the last 30 years and always comes out ahead which can't be said for a lot of developers.

In terms of a job where you will be building your so called "toolbox" as a young CRE professional Holland will cover a vast majority. Either way congrats on the offers, Holland is a hard group to get into.
