How and where to get involved in the New York community

Looking ahead to the coming year and a full-time stint in banking, I was hoping to find some advice for both how and where to get involved in the local community with the already busy schedule of a banker. Similar to many people on this forum, I've been heavily involved in my school communities and have found being able to give back rewarding and relatively fun. As I look to move to New York I understand that the first couple of months will be extremely hectic as I get up to speed/go through PE recruiting. However, after things begin to level out I want to find ways to continue to give back.

I'm hoping to find a cause/foundation with work that is relatively accommodating to the unpredictable nature of the job. Talking to some alumni one of them mentioned he had friends on the Young Wall Street Council for the UJA but unfortunately I'm not Jewish. I was wondering if there was anything similar that was secular, or if there were any alternatives people could recommend. I'm not concerned with how 'relevant' the work is to finance as I already have my job lined up, I'm primarily looking for an organization focused on giving back to the local community, where I'd be able to help organize events or help out in a support function that I could potentially do during downtime at the office.

Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

Especially for getting plugged in with people of a similar lifestyle, e.g. lawyers, consultants.

In moving to a totally new place, it would be helpful to connect with recent grads even if just for a pickup basketball groupme.
