How Common is an IB to HF Move?

Will be joining a very reputable MM IB firm for next summer, but have been considering future exit options. There are numerous threads on here discussing IB to PE, however what is the move like to HFs? Could I get two years of great experience in a bank and then make a move to a >$10B fund? The industry has always fascinated me and seems just a tad bit more manageable at the PM level vs being an MD at a bank.

Would love to hear some thoughts and advice.

The biggest feeders into fundamental HFs are probably any FO sell-side role and PE. IB is a big feeder for long/shorts (and event driven HFs) but occasionally you have to go through PE to get there.

HFs are less interested in your firm than your prospects as an investor/researcher however it definitely plays a factor in recruiting. I'd have a look on linkedin to see where alumni of your firm are at now.

Thank you, when would you generally say to stay ready to recruit for a hedge fund? I don’t know as much about it but know it can be all over the place. Appreciate the help!
