How do PE firms verify GPA's?
They don't collect transcripts and background check firms can't access your confidential academic files, so how do they do it?

Well, if they don't collect transcripts they can't. But I can't see that being universal because Ive heard of people having to send in conformations of SAT scores.
If they do collect transcripts, how do they get them? Do you just bring an official transcript to them, or do you sign over the rights to a background company to request transcripts?
SAT scores for PE firms? Now that is lame.
seriously there is confirmation of SAT scores in PE after analysts stint?
If you don't lie, then you really don't have anything to worry about confirming.
Along the same lines, at what point after you've graduated college is common to remove undergrad GPA from your resume?
same idea- if you did well, you will never remove it. If you went to a good school, some people just leave their latin honors.
Once you get some solid work experience (3-5 years) you can prob remove it. My bro just lateraled out of credit suisse to work for a PE firm in the UK and they didn't even ask for his transcripts/GPA. Just references + evaluation of the last 24 months (work performance)
How long was he at CS? Just curious because the general perception is you can only lateral to PE as an associate. I'm wondering if I stay on until my associate years, would I still have a chance at PE?
He was at CS for 4.5years.
Just don't lie about it. If they don't pick you because of an SAT score, then they are not worth working for to begin with. Super toolish.
I have never heard of a PE or a hedge fund confirming an SAT score and I know a ton of people in the industry. I have heard of asking for transcripts though.
What is everyone else's experience?
I think it depends. Similarly to getting your first job out of college, you may have to submit to a background check which may include confirmation or graduation, transcripts (test scores if they are listed on your transcript) and also a credit check.
They will ask for transcripts later on in your interview processes at many firms. I have not heard of them verifying SAT, but I have heard of them verifying GMAT scores (because who still has their official SAT forms a few years out of college).
You can remove your GPA after you have enough experience that college is not something you discuss. So, basically 7-10 years out. In PE and many other jobs, they will still ask for it if you don't have it on your resume. In finance, we do care if you were a slacker in college it shows through to your work ethic. So basically, until you get another degree to put on top of your college degree, you will be asked about it.
You might have to order from your college a transcript.
PowerMonkey: Do they ask you for your transcript after giving offers or during the interview process, where they might actually look through your grades/classes and ask you about them?
A friend of mine is an associate at a megafund and he said that they don't collect transcripts.
